The New Newbie

Postby jjlentz » Sat Jun 13, 2009 10:42 pm

Hi everyone guess I'm the new newbie. My wife and I have enjoyed tent camping together for several years now and are ready for an upgrade and a new adventure together. We did a web search a few years ago after seeing a teardrop up along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The simple search revealed the pricey Camp Inns and others that were out of our budget, so we continued to find comfort in our tent.

On our recent Memorial weekend camping trip we saw a Little Guy in the park and our interests were re-ignited. This time our research revealed the option of building our own teardrop. After realizing just how many people have done so, and the amount of info that is available for guidance, we've grown very excited!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this web site and made it the useful tool that it is. I've spent countless hours during the last 3 weeks reading posts and gaining knowledge.

Welcome to our world and the forum here. You'll find a load of information and help, but also some of the best camping buddies ever. Teardroppers are fun people!

I see your in Salisbury, NC... I have ex inlaws in Rockwell. Nice part of the state your in.

The best advice I can give you ( and if you haven't already done it) is to see and feel a teardrop in person. Lift up the hitch, lay inside , raise the hatch... and whether you think about buying or building, think about your towing capabilities, where you'll be going and your type of camping .
Then there's much to learn on the way.

Good luck !
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

JJlentz. welcome from RRolyn. Glad you found the board at last. Building your own teardrop has many rewards. It is usually cheaper, can be designed to suit your own size and tastes and can be outfitted and finished in any manner you choose. Plus, what can be better than to answer "Yes" to the question asked, if you built it yourself? Good luck on your efforts, ask questions, take pics and post em.
