What Can Be Done About a Pear Thief?

Ya'll, there is a squirrel that keeps stilling my pears which aren't mature yet. I was looking out the window and just saw the critter doing the deed. Not only does he make off with the one pair that he can hold in his mouth, but in the process he knocks other pears off their limbs. At this rate, I won't have any by the time the should have reached maturity.

Any solutions short of using a bb gun? He jumps from the fence to the tree limbs.

maybe if your lucky the squirrel will get a belly ache from the not so ripe pear and leave them alone.. otherwise if it was my tree it would die from lead poisoning..

Not sure how good that would work....the bunnies around here eat the stems out from under the leaves on pepper plants, only the hot pepper ones, and that's the little bunnies!!!

I would suggest cayenne pepper, but dunno how big your tree is. Works great with birdseed around these parts.

what you need is something that he won't like the scent of -- try a teaspoon of plain washing ammonia in a cup of water, sprayed on/around the tree and limbs.

Whatever I use, I want to be able to eat at least 2 or 3 of the pears later on .

If I use a spray, I'll have to spray the whole tree because he's a selective critter. I watched him yester and he went from limb to limb, inspecting the fruit until he found one that he liked. Maybe, I'll try spraying the tree with vinegar. If I use amonia, it may burn the fruit.

I just wonder where he is storing all of that fruit...probably in someone's chimney.

lololprobably storing them in the soffit of your house using the hole he chewed thru your new siding.. squirrels can be a pain in the arse...

...now that is a good idea...they even have a pepper spray paint ball...would probably be very effective...I still think a pellet gun best for these pests...you won't bother the neighbors and you will add something to the strew pot.......
