New Guy from Seattle

Postby bluesforchallah » Fri Jun 05, 2009 11:30 am

Hello, I thought I would introduce myself. My real name is Chris. I’m 39, live just outside of Seattle with my wife and 7 year old son. I’m looking forward to getting to know the folks within the forum community.

I just joined this group a few minutes ago. I stumbled across this site while researching the wonders that are teardrop trailers. I’m currently in the process of trying to determine whether or not to buy (used) or build my own and for the sake of challenge and hopefully saving a few dollars, I’m leaning towards the latter. Any instruction/direction I may receive here will be most appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Chris

Hi Chris, let me be the first to welcome you to the very best teardrop and vintage trailer site on the internet. You do have a problem. First you must decide which it is going to be, build or buy. The plus side of buying is that you can get involved, virtually overnight. However, buying is a bit more expensive, unless you are building something that requires lots of expensive construction materials and includes all of the bells and whistles.

You second option, as you indicated, would be to build your very own teardrop with your own two hands. (That, by the way, would be my choice) If you do have the basic tools and a place to build it, I suggest you plan on doing just that. I have read many accounts of folks who built their own and the pride and pleasure they have showing it to admiring on-lookers. Home-builts have the advantage of seeing your own designs developed into an actual camping wonder that is totally different than any camping trailer on the road.

There is a ton of design and construction information on this board, and I encourage you to check them out and then.........buy that frame! Building a trailer to accomidate the 3 or you can be done more inexpensively than you think. Do take advantage of the many knowlegable builders on this forum, ask any question you like, (there are NO dumb questions) since many of us have been in the same place you are right now.
Good luck, either way and come join the fun.......Roly 8)

Welcome

I'm not sure you save a lot by doing it yourself but it is a whole lot more fun.

I love it when I'm at the car show and they ask who built it and I say I did.

Hey welcome to the forum. You can find a lot of help around here. I ended up buying mine last year to get me on the road plus I didn't have the space to build. Be sure to ask lots of questions.

Bluesforchallah = music for yummy bread?
Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".
