James Brown grew up around Augusta and when I was still married and my husband did lots of traveling, James and his second wife would often fly into Augusta on the same flight my husband was on.

They'd be in first class so they'd got the REALLY good peanuts.

They'd swirl off the plane and parade through Augusta's little dinky airport in matching floor length mink coats, waving to the rest of us standing there like dummies gawking (a mink coat in July in Augusta Georgia is kinda nutty but stunning).

George...really? How did you know that? Wow, this is a bummer. She was one of the coolest gals I knew. This is a jolt to me.

Hi Ira

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I was looking up the film & Gina after your post, it shocked me too and I didnt even know her, way too young, I was kinda hoping I had got the wrong one after your uncertainty on the name.

What an interesting topic!! :)

Umpteen years ago, in my Oklahoma City suburb of Midwest City, the new mall was opening and I was 16 at the time and working at the ChickFil-A. Ed McMahon and some other celebs were there , but with all the ribbon cutting etc, I didn't see anyone. Then as I'm taking orders at the counter, here comes the entourage of someone and the local cameramen and up walks ARTE JOHNSON and he says something like "They may want chicken but I know what I want! " and he reached over the counter and gave me a hug! :lady: I wish I had a picture of that , but all I got was an autograph... and a good story!

ARTE JOHNSON, if you remember, is the short funny man from Laugh In, famous for being the old man on the tricycle that makes suggestions to Ruth Buzzie while at the park and she hits him with her big purse.

I don't know if this counts but my friend and his dad both had vehicles in the movie Dazed and Confused. His Dad owns the 1969 Bronco that Coach Conrad drove and my friend’s car is a 1968 camaro that is in almost every scene but is just an extra. His Dads Bronco was also in Hope Floats, as Sandra Bullock's ride. Also my Grandfather's second cousin is Ty Cobb. He, didn't even care for him too much.

Here in Humboldt County we have run into musicians like Norton Buffalo, Pat Metheny, Little Feat, etc. We get a lot of BIG names up in this area, but many remain anonymous on purpose. Low key place to visit and be left alone.

Other locations:

My Mom and I sat at a dolphin show with Ron Howard and his family. He was in the Bahamas filming underwater scenes for "Mermaid". His child's Nanny asked us if we knew where a laundrymat was to do their clothes.

Saw Annette F. & Frankie as they were exiting off the airplane and walked with them until they met their escort for a "Spring Break Fling" in Florida.

Traveled from Hawaii to SFO with Robin Williams (1st class).

Talked with a soap opera star, Nikki on Young & Restless, Melody Thomas Scott & her husband (the producer of the show) at our local airport. They were up looking at some property to buy in the area.

Now, I'd like to know if any of our TD readers have had their own few minutes of fame. (See Dean's post for the bit part in Halloween or Sarge's special moments). It would be fun to see/look at what you might be known for doing.

Man, this thread really IS getting interesting, and it's not like I'm trying to take credit for anything. I just had an idea that there would be some great stories amongst us.

Like...and I can't help going back to it and although all of the other stories here are simply fantastic..peeing next to Martin Short!!! (I LOVED Second City in the 70s!!! Plus seeing Andrea Martin of the same show!!! You're BLESSED!!!)

And George, thanks for the link. I'm going to go there now. I just know I'm going to be depressed after seeing it, and I wanted to post this first.

40 years old. Damn. I just don't get the whole thing.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I just hit the link, George.

It's a b**** getting old, because I could SWEAR seeing her on NYPD three times. Yeah, she played a few prostitutes, but that's no excuse for getting it that wrong. But I had no idea she was in that many other movies (B-level, yeah), but also a bunch of top-rated TV shows.

But damn. 40 years old. Again, I just don't get it.

I made some copies of a picture for Judd Hirsch (Taxi, independence day, Dear John etc) at my photolab about 5 years ago. Also met Robin Williams about 4 years ago. He asked to use the bathroom in our store. About 100 years ago or maybe it was 15 I was working at Budget rent a car and delivered a car to an address Opra came out and thanked me. I think thats it.

I forgot one...
Walter Ray Williams Jr. (PBA bowler and world champion horse shoe pitcher) grew up just a couple of houses away from where I grew up on C St. in Eureka.
He became a wolrd champion during Jr. high school days...
Used to toss horse shoes with him all the time.
I've emailed him a couple of times over the last few years, just for grins and giggles, but have never recieved a return reply.
Last time I checked, he was one win away from tying Earl Anthony's all time win record. We used to call him Dead Eye.

Yes, it was definatly Adam West. I have his autograph on a promotional picture, and my mom took a picture of him and I together. I'll have to find the pics next time I visit my folks.

8) Went to high school with Marty Lyons, a New York Jet for 10 (or more years); Got detained for 92 in 55 in south Ga. by a cousin of Jim and Jack Youngblood of L.A. Rams fame. I've passed on some opportunities, I figured I probably be disappointed and "they" would rather not bother.

Forgot yet another one... You'll know why I forgot it too.
I shook Bobby Kennedy's hand the day before he was assasinated. :frightened:

When I was younger I worked as a maintenance man at a Ramada Inn in Grand Prarie. One day I went to fix a leaky shower head for Fats Domino. 8)

Also had the chance to meet Robert Schuller while stationed in Berlin in the early 80's.

I'm involved in sprint car racing and last Thursday I talked to Vic Edelbrock, his wife and daughter Christie at dinner and they invited me to be their guest at an event next month.

I saw golfer Greg Normans rear end.

Unfortunately, it was clothed.

He rented the house next to mine during one Masters tournament.
