For the record, I looked up 'timber wolf' and was directed to the entry 'gray wolf.' If I understand correctly, both those and N.A. wolf are all one species. I think the European as well. The Mexican red wolf is a somewhat smaller subspecies. The Everglades wolf (if it's not extinct) is/was a part of the main species though generally smaller as well. Even the Indian (Asian) wolf has been successfully bred with a European wolf making that a subspecies or species member depending on the definition of the word 'species' that you use. Any biologists handy please chip in here.
