Greetings from NC

Hey now! I've just discovered teardrops and am really excited. We pulled into the Alabama welcome center rest stop on I-20 and saw the most amazing sight, a tiny trailer that I thought was probably just hauling bikes or something. It was the paint job that initially caught our eye. As we were standing oggling it the owners walked up and were proud to show off their home built camper. I immediately knew it was the perfect rig for my wife and myself. We are recent empty nesters (we'll see how long that lasts) and are passionate about going to music festivals. The biggest limiting factor has always been the RV rental. The size, expense, availability and general low quality of rentals have limited us to just one event a year. Tent camping was always an option in the past but this old deadhead likes some AC and a place off the ground to sleep. The couple at the rest stop told me about this site and what a freindly helpful bunch of folks hang out here. I'm really sorry I didn't catch their names but I hope they read this and recognize the circumstances. I'm going to go back to lurking and learning. When I have scoped out the site some more I hope to get more involved and then move on to an actual build.
The wheel is turning and you can't slow down.

Mccjeff, good for you, finally after all of these years, you have discovered the wonders of teardrop trailers. First of all, welcome to the forum. We are a bunch of folks just like you, who at some time in the past were bitten by the teardrop trailer bug. Beware, your life will never be the same.

Now, all you have to do is decide what your build is going to look like. What size, shape, kind of material on the outside, galley layout and decisions about bells and whistles that you will include or delete. Do check out the Hall of fame in the upper left corner of this page. Then check out the various build info shown at the top, and you will be well on your way to start sketching and planning the teardrop of your dreams.

We are here to help, all you have to do is ask. One suggestion, attend a teardrop gathering in your neck of the woods and try to hook up with a local builder or teardrop owner and you will be amazed how helpful they can be. Then, don't let any grass grow under your feet, get that trailer frame, start slapping lumber on it, some plywood sides and roof, and bingo, you have a teardrop built, now all you have to do is finish it.

Remember, if you really want to experience those music festivals in style, build that trailer as soon as you can, and then you will be the admired ones at the rest stop, that will be willing to share the awsome advantages of your teardrop trailer. Beware, you will have to beat away on-lookers with a stick.

Be prepared to be contacted by other teardroppers in your area........hold your breath, here they come! (lets go, locals, chime in here)

See, I told you we were a friendly, helpful group..............

PS, Oh, let me give you a tip. If you want to remain empty-nesters, change your phone number and the locks on all of your doors. It worked for me and after a decade or so, your kids will talk to you once again.

The empty nest may stay that way. We bought a 4 bedroom house with a couple of living areas so when they came home to go to school or were between professions there would be some room. Fifteen years and they've never showed up with a suitcase. Enjoy your build as much as your music.

I need a new Avatar. I'd put my dog up there but she doesn't look much like me. She's the skinny one.

We are originally from the Raleigh/Durham area and now live in Austin TX. When we get our TTT, we will probably make a trip back to NC to show off to our families! We are in the planning stages right now and plan on buying - not building. We are looking at SoCal or Camp Inn models.

Hey!

Welcome to the Teardrop/Tiny Trailer forum. I'm in NC on the other side of the State - Up in the mountains! I discovered this site about 2 years ago or so, and I am building a camper now (slow but steady). Look forward to hearing from y'all as your build progresses.

The journal in the forum for my build is here:

See you around the campfire sometime!
