Another Texan

Howdy Ya'll...

I wanted to introduce myself since I'm sure I'll need some advice soon. I want to build a Teardrop for four, and initially chose the 2+2H design. However, after seeing the Cabin Car built by 48Rob, I've been inspired to design something a little different:

I'm hoping to use the frame design for the 2+2H and stick to its basic overall dimensions.

I've got a small woodshop set up in the garage, and am saving up for a MIG welder, etc. to build my frame. For now I'll have to be content to work on designing the thing. I bought Steve's CD and am working through it looking for details/ideas, as well as reading through posts on this site.

It'll be primarily used for summer (and some winter) camping in place of tents, and to be ready to go at a moments notice. We don't want a repeat of our last 4th of July trip to Possum Kingdon Lake in 100 degree weather with young kids in tow... they were miserable and we spent most of the trip driving around in the air-conditioned car.

Anyway, my name is Scott, my wife is Steph, and the kiddos are Scotty (9) and Susie (5). I'm hoping to make this a family project, but have just barely gotten started.

Maybe I'll see some of you guys at Joe Pool Lake soon...

Welcome aboard Scott,
There are many teardroppers in the DFW area. You're welcome to drop by my home to see my teardrop that is under construction. We're in Watauga - just east of HWy 377, north of North Loop 820.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum. I also have kids named Scotty and Susie, so you can't be all that bad. Once you experience a teardrop camping trip, you will go home an burn you tenting gear. Good choice on the Cabin Car style, and hope it meets you purpose. Good luck on your building adventure, and be sure to ask questions and post pics, we just love pics. See you at a campfire in the future.
