Generac Whole House Generator . . . Price quote

Postby Geron » Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:42 am

OK, another campfire discussion off topic:

Saw the service men for Generac Generators servicing my neighbor's generator. Asked for a quote for my place.

Quoted a price of just under 7 grand for 17,000 kW generator :o :o  and I would have to connect the LP.

Doesn't that seem like about twice too much???
Northern Tool has them for $3600 - free shipping.

OK-

for the 7 grand what does that include? Does it come with complete installation? Including switch, pad, all wiring, etc? does it it include all necessary inspections and service calls?

Once you add up the necessary labor costs the price may seem very reasonable........

Yeah, you got it. 2 year warranty, Pad (landscape timber/pea gravel), switch, wiring, Installation, Service calls (yearly). Everything but the LP hookup which I can do myself.

OK -

So I would get another quote - and see if the price seems reasonable.

And you may want to check to see if you need a license plumber to make the LP connection. Running black pipe may require that.

Let me know.

Will get a quote from HD. They sell the same Generator installed.
You're right about the plumbing. Requires a High Pressure Regulator. I'll have to check.

When I built my house the only thing the the county inspected was the Septic Tank and Electric :o . I think they're a little more thorough now.

G, I have seen similarly sized/type units around here go for 5K to 10K+ depending on the contractor and where it was being installed...if the first contractor is offering a complete turnkey job for that price it seems reasonable but check around...ya never know.............

Thanks guys, still shopping. I'll let you know. Just don't want to drop 7k right at the moment. Most likely pull the trigger before winter. Tri-State EMC ( They Tri to provide to service ;) ) needs a little assistance from time to time.
