Door Lock/Latch

Looking to buy the door lock latch set and looking at Ebay and see alot of trimark latch setups i am liking the look of. so before I buy wanted to get your opinion on what you used and if you did use trimark how do you like it. thank you

I used the same one on mine and love them. The install was a pain in the butt. They must be completely disassembled and shoved through the front of the door and out the side. The tricky part in doing this is not to put to much pressure on the thin inner plywood of your door and crack it.

correct me if im wrong Joe, looks like you did a 1/2 inch plywood exterior and then insulation and then 1/8 inch interior plywood.

I guess im asking from you since you have installed it could I do it with 3/4 ply exterior another 3/4 "block" of ply wood and then my 1/8 interior ply wood to give some support. route out the pocket to place teh hinge, or am i asking for trouble

I bought a pair of trimark style door locks from pplmotorhomes.com. They fit doors from 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick.

Unfortunately they didn't match the locks and keys on the two locks. I shipped, at my expense, one lock to the manufacturer to have them re-key it to match the other one. There was no charge to me for re-keying.

No instructions were included showing how to install them. So I made a sample section of my planned doors and figured it out by trial and error. A lot of cutting and filing was involved to make them fit well enough. My teardrop is under construction so I have not yet installed the doors and locks.

I like that the locks are flush with the door on the outside and that they have a deadbolt for extra security. My teardrop is under construction.

They are a bit tricky to install, depending on your door construction. You really have to think it through. This is as far as you can disassemble the latches. As you can see, the exterior latch and the bolt do not come apart, so you have to have a plan for getting the bolt through the front of the door. I just cut a keyhole shaped hole in the front, then dropped it in and refitted the small cutout piece. it worked for me since I could cover the whole thing with aluminum. BTW, I used 1/2" exterior, 1x framing and 1/8" interior skin.

I love my latches. But like everyone else has said, they are a pain to install. They don't disassemble as much as you would like. Unlike Dean, I could not cut out a keyhole to drop in the latch. I took a chisel and took my time, taking a little off each time until I could tilt the latch into place. You will have to cut the interior portion of the hole for the bolt at a slight angle to get it to fit...it's hard to explain. But I think the effort is worth it.

One of them is a dead bolt.

You're right, but it's designed to work either way.

And if you do go to the website of the importer you can get a PDF drawing showing the dimensions of the holes etc..... They are wrong.. The only accurate info given is the minimum door thickness of 1 1/4 " and even then just... A royal pain in the A** but worth the trip in the end ,,,look professional and work great.
