Hello From Wales!!!

Postby WelshWrangler » Sun Jul 05, 2009 1:54 pm

Hey Guys!

I thought I would give everyone a quick hello! My Sam and I live near Swansea, South Wales, UK. I've been lurking around the website for the past year or so learning and being amazed by everyones teardrop builds and designs. I've always enjoyed camping but I'm looking for something a but more comfortable with out going to a full size caravan or camper yet!

I have two Jeep I use for shows and various events. The 1st Jeep is a 1995 Wrangler thats been modded for serious off road fun and my 2nd Jeep is a 1944 Willys MB.

I've been looking on and off for past couple of months for a suitable trailer/chassis to build a TD off road camper with aWWII Military that could be used behind either Jeep.

I've just bought a perfect donor trailer. Its a M416 trailer that has been refurbished and turned into a flat bed trailer. A perfect base for my 1st project.

I would be interested to see or hear from anyone that has done a similar military themed TD?

Thanks

Sam

Good score.
I've seen a TD on this site with a military paint job. Can't remember who.

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum. I can't help you with your military build, but those jeeps are fine looking machines. The trailer looks like it could go anywhere the jeeps take it, and a teardrop placed upon it looks like the answer. I am concerned about how you would design a door that will work over the fender though. There is no room ahead or behind it, so are you planning on a fairly high-sided teardrop that will handle a door above the fender? Draw us a sketch and post it, inquiring minds want to know. Good luck on your build, and when you get it all finished, come on over and give our mountains, canyons and deserts a go. The coffee is always on, here in So Calif.

Hey guys thanks for replies so far! :D

Roly, I'm looking at removing the jerry can and tool box from the front of the trailer which will give me a nice flat platform to work on. The bed of the trailer is about 6' but I'm looking at extending it to about 8' (ish) will post some ideas in the off road section once I had a think!

Philip, I live on the Gower in a small village called Crofty near Penclawdd! Its a small world!

Image to the playground Sam!

Looks like a wonderful build. Remember that you can also make the door in the back if you square it. 8) Thanks for the pictures. Love the Willie.
