Flea market find!

I have been attempting to make balsawood models of some of my designs, and it has been slow going. Mainly just from trying to cut the wood with a hand saw, or getting a clean, straight cut from my Dremel.
Mike suggested I get a scroll saw but I could not afford one.

My wife and I were at the flea market today looking for purple glass doorknobs (her mom collects them) and check out this find I got for only $10.00!



It was filthy, and the guy did not know if it worked, but I figured for ten bucks, what the heck! I brought it home, cleaned and oiled it and it works great! Now if I could just find a manual for it! But that circular thing in the photo is actually a sander that takes those sticky sanding discs. How neat is that?!

I don't know if you plan on cutting anything other than balsa wood, but here is a good tip about scroll saw blades; If that saw doesn't require pinned blades, don't buy any!
I quit buying scroll saw blades about two years ago.
I got quite fed up during a project I was working on, because I kept breaking blades.
I bought a couple of band saw blades and cut some sections to the propper length for my Delta scroll saw. I haven't had a single blade snap on me since.

Thanks for the info Dean. That blade does look a little wimy, but it does have to be a pin type. That is the only way it will mount. Luckily the heaviest wood I will be using is 1/8" birch, and also those blades are like $2.50 for a 5 pack. So for 10 bucks I would say it is worth a few busted blades. If I were ever to get really serious, I would probably get an actual band saw.

What I would really like to get for the new house (since I will be building lots of shelves, gardening boxes, puppy gates, etc) is one of those neat tables that is a combination router and table saw.
