hello from Utah

I've been looking at this site for over a year now. I built a teardrop using the plans from Kuffel Creek two years ago, unfortunately before discovering this site. The Cubby I built is serviceable but not perfect. This time around I'm building a Cubby on a 5'x 8' trailer and finishing it with plywood sides and an aluminium top. Already I've run into a snag with choosing plywood. I bought 1/4" cherry plywood with an MDF core. I now read that this is not recommended, because if it gets near water it turns to mush. The question is, if you use epoxy resin and varnish isn't what the core is made of irrelevant? What is the preferred choice for 1/4" ply? marine grade? How may plys and what kind of core? and where do you get it? So many questions, and all I wanted to do was say hello. At any rate your help is much appreciated. Thank you and hello

I saw a 40's tearedrop that was made of masonite. It was well sealed and held up. Not sure if MDF will handle the strain, though, That stuff doesn't bend or flex well at all. If you seal it so it's water tight, that won't be the issue IMHO. I'm guessing it might just crack under the flexing motion of hauling it around, though. :o
God Bless

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum! Check out Macbeath's for specialty plywood here in Salt Lake. Here's a link listing area suppliers that I frequented during my build: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=21102&highlight=
I sent you a PM, too.

Hey Paul,

Nice to have another Utahn here. I used MacBeath's as well and bought their 1/4" Aquatech plywood as I am going to paint my trailer. They also have 1/8" baltic birch.
