Hi ho, hi ho...its off to the garage I go.

A balmy 97 degrees at 12:30. At least the heat index is only 99 degrees. I wonder how hot my frame is sitting out in the sun.

If I don't pass out, I'll post some progress.

I got started at 6:30AM this morning just to avoid as much heat as possible. I'll do the same thing tomorrow. We decided to call it quits around 3PM when the heat index broke 105. You've gotta love Texas heat!

I powered on through until 7:00 p.m. I don't what the final high temperature was but it was hot (well over 100 degrees) and the shade structure didn't help a whole lot. Spent most of the afternoon wire-brushing and prepping the frame for paint. (Yes, that is a Ford Festiva in the background.)



After a some wire brush time with the grinder, I cleaned the frame with TSP, and then used a zinc phosphate acid etch. I will probably paint next weekend.



Then, I moved into the garage and started finishing the headboard face frame. (It is also a front bulkhead.) Since the interior walls are clear-finished red oak, I thought I'd try something different and "ebonize" the interior cabinets. I will finish up the stain with satin polyurethane.



I think today will be just garage time. I don't think I can handle another day of the heat and sun.

I think Sunday may have been cooler than Saturday - maybe the temperature only reached 101 degrees. I pressed on, but not much to show for the day. I did poly the interior cabinet face frame and applied the first step of the two-step paint process to my trailer frame.





And, I survived the heat!

Yes, this project has officially initiated my garage. My drop cloth is smaller than the frame and I had intended on moving it around. Oh well, I guess there is an Aggie joke in there somewhere.

Not too much to report. On Saturday, I did finish painting my frame and made some brackets and miscellaneous parts. But not much was accomplished on Sunday. I "tweaked" my back flipping the frame over to paint the bottom. Frame + axle + 52-year old fat guy = accident waiting to happen. And while the temps were cool, the humidity was unbearable.

Cool front hit. It was only 98 degrees today. First wall being stood up.



Let's get this thing fastened, braced, and plumbed.



So far so good on pre-cutttng the parts. At least one wall fits the floor and frame. Time for a quick break and re-hydration.



And now for wall #2.



And it looks like I measured right on the bulkheads. Everything fits and aligns, and the walls are parallel. It finally looks like a teardrop!

Reminds me of the time when I arrested a guy driving a tow truck. Had to call a tow truck to tow the tow truck away. Something ironic about that.

I'm also a certified Master Peace Officer. I'm a Reserve Police Lieutenant with the City of Irving. I'm a vet during the week and a cop during the weekend. I don't get paid but it's so much fun I don't care.
