When to register a home build?

tianac2, check out this thread. You should find all the information required to register your build. I prefer to finish the build then have it inspected. I then know it will pass inspection by any law enforcement you may encounter on the streets or highways. Have fun with your build. Danny

The DMV gave me a copy of Wisconsin's trailer liscence application form to give to any officer should I ever be stopped out of state. Wisconsin does liscence large trailers I believe 15 feet plus. Not the small ones though. The state just wants it's sales tax.

Have never been stopped yet though.

Here in Ohio " arm pit of the world" if you wait till it is completed and get it inspected you are in for a suprise.. Even if you paid taxes on the materials you are going to get taxed again.. They said you paid taxes on the materials but when the materials are put together it is worth more than the materials alone...Ahh best part .....You cannot have any internet recepts period it will automaticly fail the inspection. It must be leter head type invoices no eceptions.. What is all this agravation for you ask... A vin number on the frame..

Do yourself a favor. Mount a deck and get your plates via Utility Trailer . All that is needed is a weight slip, no inspection no questions and you wont get slapped with an $800 tax bill.

Wow, thanks for all the great information! I got really busy this past week and got waylaid from my TD quest temporarily, and came back to far more responses than I expected! Thanks everyone!

We've found an old gutted tent trailer that we're going to get so that we can strip it down, put a deck on it and THEN register it....lol.
