Should I buy this pop up camper??

2old2tent: I adjusted my project dimensions to match the trailer frame. Couple of inches, at that price it's not a big deal.

I agree, I adjusted mine to fit also.

The popup itself is 13 feet by 6 feet 9 inches. I haven't gotten down and measured the frame itself. I will do that tomorrow, had to work this weekend.

Well I am in the process of dismantling the pop up. Its been well over 100 degrees every day for a couple weeks. 106 today, so that has been slowing me down.

I found the plans I was thinking about.

My question is, this thing has only 13 inch tires. Will it be stout enough to build an 8x12 cabin with a sleeping loft (like in the plans above). I am thinking about maybe ripping 2x4's into 2x3's to save some weight that way. Bad idea?

I built on a pop up frame that's the way I did it, I've got smaller tires than that and have had no problems in the over 3,500 miles I've put on it so far.
Mines 6'6"x11'6" and weighs 1,750 lbs I'd say 13 inch tires will be no problem.

How tall are you makeing it? Looking at the plans it looks like it would be top heavy traveling down the road.

Hi Scott, it will be somewhat top heavy, the good news is that it will spend very little time on the road. I am planning on the main room rafters will be 7 feet tall and then the loft will be 4 to 5 feet. Dangerously top heavy? Did you build a small cabin on your pop up frame?

I built a Tear drop on it just rather heavy, you can see a pic of it on the second page in my album.

So you're talking 11-12 feet tall I'd be affraid to even take a corner with that.
As long as your tires are weight rated for what you're carrring I don't see many problems with that end of it.

I don't know, I have been doing some research and I think I may need a dual axle trailer with 15 inch tires to hold this thing.

I have a 2007 4wd Tacoma with towing package, rated for 6,000 pounds. It will only be towed 18 miles or so to my deer lease.

I sure wouldn't try to tow anything that tall with my truck, and it's rated for 10K pounds....

On tumbleweed houses.com they are building taller and heavier ones than that on tandem axle trailers. As long as the trailer will handle it (I have decided now that a tandem axle trailer will be a necessity) and the weight is under 6K, I am not worried about it. It will only be making an 18 mile slow speed trip once every year or two.
