Hello,
I'm Dave from SC just introducing myself. I don't have a teardrop but I do have a home built camper. Its not the prettiest camper on the site (by a long shot) but I built it in 2 weeks.
Maybe I'll see you on the road to Maine. I'm relocating next month

Cheers
Dave

Welcome to the forum. I also have a homebuilt. I call it a Teardrop. Lol. Works for me. Good luck on your move.

Hi Dave, it is good that you posted on our forum, even though you "don't have a teardrop trailer". This board isn't exclusively for teardroppers, we welcome anyone who has built, remodeled, purchased, or aquired a long-forgotten trailer, vintage standy or teardrop, that might have been used as a chickencoop for 50 years. Good for you, building a camping unit in two weeks. If more builders would go that route, they would be camping and enjoying the finer points of sleeping, cooking and traveling in a useable sleeper, like you have built, in no time at all.

I, for one, would like to see more pics of exactly what your trailer looks like. I see it has one door, but I question if it opens up in the rear for access to any kind of galley. Also, you got any cabinets inside, or perhaps a roof vent to get a little fresh air? Not that it matters, I'm just curious. A little info about length and width would be nice, and how many sleepers you plan to occupy it. Ah yes, Maine, a beautiful state, which has some nice lighthouses too. I may make it back there someday, if so, I might see you in a local campground, enjoying your new lifestyle. Right on, and do let us know a bit more about the "2 week wonder".

Welcome from Asheville

Postby Alfred » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:17 pm

Hey Dave,

Greetings from just a little farther up I-26, in Asheville, NC. I am slowly building a homebuilt, not a teardrop, in fact shaped not all that differently from yours! Please post some more pictures of it!

Image

I have been working on it for about 2 years (I am new at this), but my goal is to have it campable for the TD gathering in Lexington, NC in Mid-September.

Welcome aboard, you will meet a lot of good people and get a lot of good feedback from the folks on this Forum. If you ever get up Asheville way, let me know!

I'll tell you a little bit about the "2 week wonder". I like that name. It may be christened so. I'm a carpenter by trade, and needless to say, there isn't a lot of that work here in SC right now.
I've been wanting to move to Maine since 92, and recent circumstances have allowed me the chance.
My father gave me a 4 x 8 work trailer a while back and to occupy my time (and mind) I decided to build an enclosure on it and make it into an enclosed tool trailer, but its also a TTT. As you can see in the avatar, it has a door on the side, but also has double doors on the back end. Interior dimensions are 44"x93"x65". The final dimensions were determined by the trailer size and the height of the cap on my truck.
Its a work in progress, but the initial build was done in a couple of weeks and cost about 350 bucks in materials from the local home depot and HF (lights and tongue jack). I plan to put a small galley in the back, a futon style bed that will sleep two, an area in the front to hold a cooler, small sink, water jug and a porta potty.
I'll be installing an rv style roof vent with a little fan and would like to put a small crank out window on the side (they're expensive). I also have a HF solar kit that I want to use to charge my battery, so we might call this the "1 month wonder"

I just decided to make a youtube video of the construction of the "2 week wonder". It only shows the actual construction pictures in a slideshow set to music, but you get the idea.

Oh, yeah...OK...It sounded familiar, yet not. Now I know why! OK, now who is the group, where can I get the CD(?)

And I am amazed you built your camper in 2 weeks. I'm on mine for almost two years now and still not even halfway done!

I've been adding things as I get the money now. I now have a small window in the side, have added a removable shelf/seat to the interior, a step to make it easier to climb in, and will be putting in a couple of shelves.
It is evolving into a wierd hybrid.
Like I tell my best friend, the trailer is like me: not the best looking thing on the block, but strong, sturdy, and will never let you down. (Ha ha ha, she'll kill me when she reads that)

As to the song in the video:
Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance) [MP3 Download], Price: $0.99
From the album Green Day Bluegrass: Pickin' On Green Day. A Bluegrass Tribute
By: Green Day Tribute

I bought the song on amazon.
