A SC hello!

Postby Vommie » Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:03 am

Hey all, I'm glad I found this forum! I really want to get into travel trailers. I hope this forum will help educate me so I can make a smart buy and have many years of camping fun! I need something big enough to sleep two dogs.. I have a Rhodesian ridgeback mix (110 pds) and a shepherd mix (60 pds) I might be dreaming but I think we can do it!

Thanks in advance!

Hi ya Vommie

Welcome to the madness
Now with two dogs that size, you just might be the one sleeping in the side tent

Read through the threads about camping with the pets, enjoy.

Welcome to the forum, hope you get the info youl need. Good for you, camping with dogs. I do it all of the time. However, I suggest you opt for getting something a bit smaller, like my little 5 lb Maltese. Snuggles right into my sleeping bag, no problems. Seriously, if you plan on a teardrop, besure it is a big one. Those are some pretty big hounds you have there. Good luck on your search, and keep in touch.

Vommie, how much money you lookin to spend..you looking for new or something to rebuild.
I just bought a new 2009 Shasta from a dealer in PA, went up there to pick it up and he has all sorts of tiny travel trailers up there. Shastas, Scottys, T@Bs. He had a Mojo, and a few R-pods.
also had a few a-liners

Welcome! We have two medium dogs (one 30 lb who is as tall as a 50 lb, and one 60 lb who is taller than most of his 100# playmates... they are both part poodle and take up as much room stretched out as LARGE dogs) AND my husband is 6'4" tall. We realized we couldn't have a teardrop, persay, either... and got a travel trailer.
Our travel trailer is 7 feet wide and 10 feet long. It is PERFECT for the four of us. One dog sleeps on the floor between the bed and galley, the other sleeps on the bed with us. There would be enough room for all FOUR of us on the bed, except one of the dogs doesn't "sleep nicely". She gets the floor. (The bed is about 6.5x6.5 feet)

If you got something of the same size, but with a smaller bed, you could probably put both dogs on the floor. Basically, a 7x10 floorplan should be perfect for you.

The new Shastas like jiminsav is talking about are about the same size/layout as mine. I've seen a couple other newer trailers of about the same size, as well. What are you looking to pull it with? We've realized that we really needed a truck to pull ours at 1500 lbs... luckily we have one. (We'd intended on pulling it with a Subaru outback style wagon.) The TTT's are a little big heavier than the teardrops.

Welcome to the forum. I've been on here a short time and have already gotten tons of good information. This is a great group of people. If you're ever near G'ville way, lets compare campers and pets.
FYI: leash training older cats can be a b**ch...
