arguing with fools

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby TomS » Tue Oct 04, 2005 5:36 pm

I love a good debate IF it is conducted in an intelligent and RESPECTFUL manner. Sometimes, the participants wear out a thread and begin repeating themselves and/or support thier positions with long-winded quotations. Even then I don't really mind, I just skim them quickly and move on to the next item.

What I don't like to see is personal insults and members deliberately goading other members.

Disparaging remarks about the quality of another member's work or progress have no place on this forum. We're supposed to help and encourage each other here.

OK I consider myself in the Teardrop Brother/Sister Hood.

I would hate to get into some exhaustive argument with someone VIA this board AND then actually meet that someone at say; a Teardrop gathering somewhere!

It's a small world and could conceivably happen, don't think that this is a SECURE place for an argument! The person(s) you have an issue with could be your neighbor at an outing sometime!

You could end up like poor George Bailey of "It's a Wonderful Life", and get sucker punched when you least expect it!

Cheers,

Coop

Well, beings how I'm probably part of the cause for this thread. I know what I can do about it and that is what I will do. Below is a PM I sent. It was received and gathered no responce. Check the times of the PM vs the times of the post on the other thread. So I tried. With that said, I'm out of here and looking for some Pickle Juice here on the left coast.

Have a good day.

Hey George, lets stay friends and keep the name calling down. I enjoy discussing with you because you know what your talking about most of the time. Same with me. As I stated in that last post about Ira, I don't even listen to him.

By the way, are you over in the UK. Just wondering.

Have a good day,
Gage

Hi Gage

I answered that PM on the board and responded in a similar vain. Apologies for not replying to the PM by PM, but here is the response I made, within minutes of reading your PM

It would be great if we could both put a differing view forward without any ill feeling or digs, lets strive for that eh?

But to get back to the thread. One true thing is there is no wrong way to do something like building a teardrop. ( with the exception of a method that is obviously unsafe)
So....when i see a "How do I'''''?' with 4 or 5 responses giving suggestions, followed by a declaration that thats wrong because i did mine this way, it seems to me that the idea exchange here has ended right there.
It doesn't happen often, but there seems to be an increase of such responses.
As far as "hijacked threads" go, have any of us sat around a campfire and stayed on subject for any time ?
This forum is just a virtual campfire to me. :)

This forum is just a virtual campfire to me. :)

First off, let me say that this post in not ment for argument, but for clearification.
Secondly, you'll have a hard time finding where I have said "THAT'S WRONG BECAUSE I DID MINE THIS WAY". What I say at the end is "That's the way I did it and it worked for me".That statement was ment to prevent argument about the way I did it. So the person asking the question had a choice. He could do it like I did or like that of someone else, the choice was theres.

To many people on this forum just skim over a posting so they can quickly get a responce posted missing what that post actually said and interpreting it the way they think it said. With my post, YOU HAVE TO READ IT COMPLETE AND READ NOTHING INTO IT. If it ain't written, it ain't said.

Have a good day.

Nope, I was just clerifing my stand and your post was close to what others have said outright to me and when reading your post would think Gage. Nothing against you. Enjoy the campfire ;) and have a good day.
