Hello! Newbie from Illinois side of St. Louis

Postby ame8199 » Sat Aug 01, 2009 12:31 pm

Hello,
Im new here and new to teardrops. Im almost 28 years old and really want a Little Guy trailer. I believe thats the only one light enough to be pulled by my Ford Focus. Ive been wanting one for a while. Im single and probably will stay that way.

I live on the Illinois side of St. Louis and there used to be a Little Guy dealership in west St. Louis, but not anymore. Now I think the nearest one is an hour and a half away.

I have some questions about the hitch and trailer that I will ask eventually.

I got my T@B in St Louis, on the IL side.

What's the name of the place where you can't get Lil Guys anymore...

Welcome aboard, and best wishes on your search for the right teardrop!

I have a 2008 Little Guy 6-wide platform and have an ongoing thread in the Teardrop Manufacturers section that may be of interest. And somewhere in the archive is another from the Newbie section.

You'd be happy with a 5-wide. If my 4-cyl Honda Element can handle, and it can very well, then that may bode well for your Ford Focus. But others know more about the Focus.

And as my threads note, I got my Little Guy without cabinetry, which makes it even lighter.

Good luck!

Hiker Chick: I was looking more at the Rascal. Its only 480lbs and 50lb tongue weight. My focus can only tow 1000lbs. The lighter the better. I really want the cabinets.

To Mike: I dont remember the name of the dealership, but it was in Eureka, MO. Ive looked at the T@B's but cant pull it with my car. I dont want to risk it being too heavy and ruining my car.

I find other manufacture that sell teardrop that weight between 700-900 but i dont think I want to risk my transmission.

What I really want to do is get a Twin Size mattress and have floor space for my dogs crate. hes a miniature dachshund so the crate isnt that big.

Will the little guys allow for a standard size mattress or do you have to use theirs?

Hey Amy,

Eureka does not ring a bell... I think the place was up towards Oldenberg...

Regarding your question for Hiker Chick, you can configure a Lil Guy any way you want... just pull out the mattress that it comes with, and put your own in.

Heck you could have a dog crate by your feet, and a porta potty by your head.

On the other hand, you might want to put the dog crate by your head, and the porta potty by your feet.

I was just looking at the specs for a twin size mattress and the size of the inside of the Little Guy and it seems like the little guy wont be long enough for a twin size mattress. Do people put regular size mattresses in there? Or do you have to buy special sized ones for trailers?

Since it's only me when I camp, I took out the full size mattress(s) and replaced the with a 31" wide mattress. That leaves room for a cabinet and misc. storage.

Hi Amy,

I'm near Belleville. I have a 5x10 Silver Shadow by Little Guy. Bought on eBay from the dealer. Hubby went to Ohio to pick it up. I tried all the metro east dealers to see if they carried any, but no go. I would suggest looking at the Pleasant Valley 4x8, if you are interested in a retro look rather than sporty. http://www.missouriteardrops.com/ in Centerview, MO. On the mattress, I'd replace the stock mattress with a twin futon mattress. I needed the extra padding so bought a queen futon mattress.

You can check mine out if you want.

thanks for the offer. Ive looked at the Pleasant Valley's but Im just worried about the weight since I just have a Ford Focus.

I really like the shelving inside and in the Galley (i think thats what its called) in the Pleasant Valleys
