Stupid girl electrical question

Postby ame8199 » Tue Aug 04, 2009 9:41 pm

So I talked to Little Guy rep Scott today about their Power Package in their trailers. This is what he told me....In simple english...tell me what I would be getting from the Power Package. Im not sure the difference between 12v , 120v and 110 power...so use like plugs in the house and cig lighter please.

Heres what i get:

Scott:
12volt package: deep cycle battery, fantastic vent fan, 12v lights in cabin and galley, 12v recepts in cabin and galley
Scott:
110 power - 30amp shore line cable
Scott:
with recepts in the galley and cabin; the external outlet for the shoreline is on the driver side
Scott:
it also includes a converter

Thanks!

...gee Amy, how 'bout a quickie :o :D ;)
AC voltage is what you have coming out of the outlet in your house...this voltage will measure out from 110VAC to 120VAC...depending on location, it may be referred to as 110, 150, 120, but it is all the same

12 volt DC electricity is what your car battery puts out and is widely used in the RV industry as well.........

...it sounds like a good package for the money...especially if you wouldn't/couldn't doit your self.....................

ugh quickie.......not going there at all

Thanks for the info, so 12v is like the cig. lighter in your car?

So I would be able to hook up to the the campgrounds electric outlets as well as use electric if there is no hookups?

So I would have outlets like I have in my house and outlets like I have in my car (the cig lighter)

Thanks again

From another electrically challenged chick...

here's how I translate what Scott said

line1: will run stuff that will plug into your cig ighter. Deep Cycle Battery will let you "dry camp" (i.e. camp someplace where you don't have a plug in); the vent in the top of your camper has a fan to help with circulation; lights & "cig" outlets inside and in the galley.

line2: you can plug in at any RV camp with a regular household plug box for RVs.

line 3: the "wire" coming out of the camper to plug into the campground plug box is on the correct side for American camping; you back your rig into the camping spot. The plug box will be a short distance from where the "wire" comes out of the camper; household outlets inside and in the galley.

line 4: all I know is my brother-in-law said I didn't need a converter 'cause I wasn't using 12Volt.

Hope this helps

...a converter "converts" 120vac into 12vdc...in addition, it provides for distribution of both AC and DC plus a battery charger circuit..........

Ditto! Some of us can be challenged about some things but you will be surprised how many men don't know either. We have a wonderful group of men and women here who are very helpful and very into building knowledge in the group..........No "S" word allowed but we know you are just jokin anyway. ;) We all have our strengths! Well most of us :D

Typically RVs use a converter because all of the lighting is 12 volt dc. So when you are plugged into the campground power the converter "converts" the 120 volt ac power coming in from the campground hook-up to 12 volts dc to run the lights. The "cigarette lighter" outlets will allow you to run your other 12 volts items as well. This is done for your convienence so you don't have to change your light bulbs every time you change from 120 volt ac power to 12 volt dc power.

Ignorance is curable and you do that by asking questions. I would hope that we would all understand that. I have a lot of very unique experience from working on components for the Space Shuttle to logging equipment and refineries. I went to the tri state Tear Jerkers last weekend and came away with a number of solutions to problems we have. Remember we have all been there at some level.
