When we call 'Papa ****'s Pizza' here in KC, they know who we are, where we're calling from, have a record of our past orders, and assume that we want the same thing(large pizza with Canadian bacon & pineapple) (a side of breadsticks & garlic butter), and want it delivered to our home in 30 minutes or less, by a pimply faced teenager who just got his license! Scary! I wonder if all of the pizza delivery places are hooked into a central database?

Um, they use caller ID to know who you are. I buy from Papa John's too, and they know me if I call them. I can also order and pay online -- even prepay the tip.

Anywho, it's not a sinister govment database -- it's plain old caller ID.

I guess that's why they are called 'conspiracy theories' instead of 'conspiracy facts'.

All this "national ID" talk started after 9-11, but nobody seemed to care until about November of last year. I can't imagine why.

Seems I can't go ten minutes without reading something or hearing someone telling me to "be afraid" -- and it all started toward the end of last year. Go figure.

It must go in cycles. The same thing happened around the end of 1992. Be afraid, be afraid. Something similar must have happened in November of 1992 and November 2008. That 90s decade turned out pretty good, though. Lots of peace and prosperity.

Oh, well. I can't figure it out, but there has got to be a reason why this happens.

CD ;)

Now, if the insurance companies ever get access to my grocery buying data, I'm gonna be paying out the wazzoo for health insurance.

Wait, I already am. :(

There is a theory why this happens and usually has conspiracy before it    But seriously - I was dropped by Allstate Auto insurance because of my credit rating after doing business with them for 10 + years due to negotiations with a hospital and a disputed insurance claim. Since when does my credit worthiness affect how I drive a car?? I switched to Metlife and got a reduced premiums. Goes to show you that some industries are interrelated.

Caller ID does not tell them what you ordered last time you called. If you use your credit/debit card at the big box stores, they know your buying history with them. I've noticed Tractor Supply and a few other places ask for your phone number even if you are paying cash, I just make one up, first of all I don't want them calling me, and second, if I'm paying cash, it's just none of their business what my phone number is or who I am.

they enter your caller ID number in their computer - retrieves your last order. Saves them time entering your address and all that might be needed for delivery - most people even order the same thing. Then they can get you off the phone and process the guy on hold.

Starleen, If I read your reply correct, you were probably dropped because you cost them too much money in claims (especially medical). Its called recision. They have computer programs that analyze your risk to them. They cut their future medical risk. I suspect it wasn't so much your credit rating unless the claim was not related to your auto insurance.

Allstate doesn't do health insurance. The negotiations with a hospital should have no bearing on his Auto Insurance.

The disputed claim could upset the apple cart, if it involved an auto claim. However, I had a $16,000 auto insurance claim with Allstate two years ago when an uninsured driver shortened the length of my car. It had no effect at all on my policy or premium.

Hmmmmm.

EXACTLY.......

This video by the ACLU has been floating around for years, like any normal buisness we collect data on our customers to better market to them. This idea that we would collect ANY kind of information other than where you live, what kind & how often you order pizza is totally absurd.

With that said... the video does expose some truths to the idea that SOMEONE is collecting this data. But I would think it would be the government, insurance companys, and the credit bureaus that have been doing this for years.

Trust me..... it's not your local pizzeria..... LOL

Elumina, the two are completely separate and unrelated. Allstate was my car insurer – and decided to drop me due to a credit score involving a disputed hospital bill which showed up on my credit rating– sounds absurd, but in Texas your credit rating affects what class of risk you are placed in by an insurer. Just like a credit card company can raise your interest rate if you are late or delinquent on any other bill that you might owe. Allstate was then sued for this action (class action suit NOT brought by me)because they checked peoples credit scores without their consent – remember I was with them for years with no problem – and recalculated their premiums based on a credit score! I was just as perplexed why this was the case – what does my credit rating have to do with the way I drive my car = no tickets and no accidents – the kind of person you want to insure.
Terms of the settlement in Texas (other states are viaried
Allstate will take the following actions under the terms of the settlement:
--Allstate will roll-out a new insurance scoring algorithm.
--In states where Allstate uses information from credit reports to rate policies, Allstate will provide its customers with the opportunity to have an insurance policy priced using its new insurance scoring algorithm.
--Allstate will make its new insurance scoring algorithm publicly available.
--Allstate will deliver a comprehensive credit education program to class members, which provides valuable information, including the many different types of business transactions where information from credit reports is used today and how class members can improve their credit position.
--Allstate will adopt an appeals program under which all customers who experience extraordinary events that negatively impact their credit history information can potentially obtain premium reductions.
--Allstate will increase the substantial percentage of its national media spend devoted to targeted multicultural marketing in its continued efforts to make the widest range of consumers aware of its insurance products.
--Class members will be entitled to apply for a one-time monetary payment. Eligibility for this payment will be determined based on a comparison of the insurance scoring group assigned to his or her Allstate policy and the insurance scoring group assigned under the insurance scoring algorithm that will be implemented pursuant to this Settlement.

And these are the good hands people!
But just as someone collects information about you – it can and will be shared with others.
