Pending Trailer Purchase

Postby alanv73 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:05 pm

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

So I'm ready to start my TD build <yay!>, and I've decided to mail order a trailer from Northern Tool. They mention that the trailer will arrive by freight, and I might have to ask the carrier (for an extra fee, of course) to bring a truck with a lift-gate to get the thing off the truck. I'm getting a 5 x 8, I think it weighs in at 250lbs. Do I really need to pay for the lift-gate, or is it easy enough for me and the driver to lift off?

Can anybody who's had this experience make a recommendation?

They might come in two packages which can be man handled without the lift gate... I'm not sure, but h/f comes that way.

Getting it off is easier than lifting in on. I would also assume at least 2 packages. One for the long stuff with the wheels, fender and miscellaneous packed in another. A hand truck will be most useful if not a necessity because if it's coming off a big rig, they won't exactly back up into your drive way. The one thing you really don't want is to have the boxes dropped of the back. The long box can be slid and tipped for a more gentle landing and that should be the heaviest of the two. The other may be light enough for you to lower it without dislocating any vertebra.

Good luck.

be prepared purchase a 10 to 12 foot 2x10 or 2x12 might be real handy to have around. The incline plane is one of the simple machines man 1st used.
