Question for Woody builders

Do you guys put any kind of bevel on horizantal wood trim and do you use full 3/4" or 1/2"? Never seen a live woody up close most I've seen around here are aluminum clad.

When building a woody, I resaw my trim down to 3/8" from 3/4" and plane it, but you can make it as thick and as wide as you want. The edges should be eased like a roundover so that whatever finish you apply, it will bond well. A sharp or hard edge over time will cause the finish to fail at that point, whether you are using epoxy or not. It should also be finished on the back side prior to install. Other opinions may vary, just what I've experienced. Doug

On my SlumberCoach I used 5/4 Cedar for my raised slats split to about 9/16"



But then on my "Pac-Man" I laid another complete sheet of 1/2" over the side profile and just cut out the openings.

Dave...I think they are all different. This one has side trim inlaid with the outside edge rounded over with a 1 1/2 bit. The battens running over the top are applied 1/4 inch thick steamed ash with a 1/4" round-over...

I used 3/4, and put a bevel on it.

Another with 3/4" width with a radius edge. This trim was built up from several pieces laminated together.

I bought 3/4 maple and planed it to 5/8. With a 1/4 round over.

I went with cheap and simple because that's how I am! I made trim from cheapie 1/4" underlayment ply. I varnished both sides of it, and especially the edges, then attached it to the walls with short wood screws with caulk in every screw hole. then I put iron-on 3/4" wide edge banding on the edges and varnished that. It has held up well for three seasons, including towing and camping in some heavy rain.
