Keep on boring us.

Boy isn't that the truth. I wish I could do just a little of this. Awesome work Dan.

roswell build

Postby dandan » Sat Aug 08, 2009 10:47 am

Thanks Guys,
im glad your still interested in it. :)
do hope to get as much (if not more) fun useing it as im getting building it !

only 2 hours today.

drilled the body bolting down holes whilst it was on the tressles.
not nice on a mechanics back-slider drilling 14 x 1/2" holes with hot
swarf dropping on me, but it had to be done.

then removed the body & craned the chassis to where im going to
finish the door & fenders.
finally craned the body back on it for the last time & secured it to the chassis.
Image
& slid the guillotine to one side to gain a little more build space.

may get a few hours on it sunday,
definately on it mon & tues.
best rgds dan.

Will do Mike,
thanks for the email.

im hopeing to put the hinge at the top & have it gull-wing.
left enough room in the recess for a pair of gas struts to assist lifting.
got a locking stainless paddle-flap latch which will go central towards the bottom.
toying with the idea of putting a car boot (trunk) release solonoid with a
key-fob remote on it in the future.
we will see.
best rgds dan.

Ok Mike,
sorry it looks a bit confuseing with the background the same.
Image
(looks like i missed a rivet)
there is metal finishing still to do but cosmetic work will have to wait !

4 hours building today.
cut the door skin & gave it a bit of gentle persuasion.
Image

then started marking & cutting the fenders cos the door
re-enforcements are to be made out of the off-cuts from the fender sheets.
(taped the drawing on the sheet & dotted through the paper)
Image

couldnt resist offering it up for a sly glimpse of whats to come !
Image

hope to get at least 10 hours tomorrow. (it needs it badly)
best rgds dan.

goodness gracious sakes alive.

now if those front windows are smoked perspex, it's going to look like it belongs in Roswell, for sure and certain!

(I've seen aircraft fuselages that didn't look that pro-built.)

Thanks again Guys for all the kind comments.

think this is possibly the worse part of the build,
lots of time being ploughed in but little to show for it.
6 hours building today.

below is a pic of the inner door skin & frame.
the outer skin can be seen lurking in the background.
Image

just put it in to see where im at
Image

then started on the hinge assy.
Image

hope to get time on it tomorrow pm.
will post again then.

best rgds dan.
