First time camping with electricity-need help!

Postby Harleyduo » Sun Aug 09, 2009 6:32 pm

Hello,
I'm somewhat chagrined to admit that I've never done any camping at a campgrounds that involved any kind of electricity. IN fact I haven't been camping in over 30 years and the last time we did any amount of camping, it always involved a two man tent and motorcycles. We usually stopped traveling on our bikes just as it was turning dark, pitched out tents and crawled in and immediately fell to sleep. The next day we were back on the road riding as most people were beginning to cook their breakfasts.

So, I've just bought a teardrop with the hopes of having a more comfortable sleeping arrangement and not having to pitch a tent in the dark. But, I think I would like to have some electricity in my trailer. I have all kinds of heavy duty electrical cords, but I'm not sure if I need some special type of cord to plug into the electrical panels found at campgrounds. I think we'd be running just a few items and mostly off a plug strip inside the trailer, such as a very small fan for air circulation, a small reading light or two before we drop off to sleep and maybe a clock radio.

If I need some special 'connecting' cord, could you please provide complete details as to exactly what I will need and maybe even a picture of what that connector looks like.
Thanks, and I apologize for sounding so much like a real dolt!

Here you go! This is all you should need. You may not need it at all some times!

 You can get a 14/3 outdoor cord that will be fine for your needs. Some have built in breakers and GFCI. If you are going to get an appliance in the rain or a leak GFCI is your best friend.

This thread will help a lot........
