FNG - kids growing up, planning escape...

Hey Teardroppers, Keith "RunawayChair" here on a rather warm Georgia evening. Just turned 50. Twin boys graduate high school in 2012. Wife and I are going to sell our house, most of its furniture, put the rest in storage pods and hook a teardrop to the '63 Ford we've been building. We want to drive across the country to Calyfornia, put our Ford and trailer on a cruise ship and set off to Hawai'i. We're looking at the Eastern side of Oahu above Diamondhead. We'll have our 5 year-old daughter along, but let our boys stay with grandparents until we reach Calyfornia. They can fly out then or wait and fly to Oahu.

I want to have a teardrop built a certain way, but I'll draw it first. So, that's it for now. Real nice to find this site. bye! ('')

Hi Keith, welcome aboard. Wow, it looks like you have your life all planned out, after most of the kids are out of the house. Check out all of the info available on this forum, and build what suits you best. Many of us have been in the same frame of mind that you are right now. Heck, 6 years ago, I couldn't even pronounce, teardrop trailer. We sold our house, traveled the USA for over 7 years and had a ball in a small motor home. A great way to live and we never regretted a minute of it.

Now, I must tell you, that is a standing rule, here on the forum, that any and all teardroppers who head West to Califorina, MUST stop by my place and tell lies about their teardropping construction and camping adventures. Plenty of room in my side yard, and you can't beat the price of the full hook-ups.................Free.

Good luck on your build, ask questions, take pics, post 'em and send lots of money................well the first three anyway. See ya sometime in 2012, with that daughter that will be 7 years old by that time.
Roly 8)

... planning escape ...

Roly! Thanks for the invitation new friend. My wife Robin and I are kinda excited about our plan. It's not a whole life thing but it is a helluva goal for just 3 years. After 23 years of buying, remodeling, maintenance, yard crews, house keepers, painters, roofers, electricians and plumbers, we've had enough of this bogus American dream of owning homes. Our government has managed to completely wreck everything that we've built up; our equity, our Roths, our kids 529s; all in one year! Oh, did I break any rules just now? oops. So, we're gonna be renters from now on. I want our boys to have a year off from school, learn to surf Hawai'i's coast and just bum around. Maybe bar-tend at the Hard Rock. There are many homes for rent on all the islands.

Indeed, the American Dream has changed! I too no longer wish to be a homeowner, but my wife has different plans. My dream is to tour the US while towing my 'wheel estate'.
Good luck with your plans, and, welcome to the forum.

FireLion! Keith RunawayChair here again. I like that "wheel-estate" phrase. We have to provide security for our wives and I'm not much of a traveler. I tangled with a tractor-trailer years ago and I'm very traffic-shy. I can't drive because of it, something akin to PTSD...

Love your idea. Now if I can just talk Bill into that. Id love nothing better to sell everything and go on the road. :vroom: We retire in January and have had an offer on our place. But Bill likes a "place to crash" he says. Oh well Ill keep trying.
Oh yea "Welcome", ;)
