roswell build

Postby dandan » Thu Aug 13, 2009 3:12 pm

Thanks again Guys.
Your support is greatly appreciated.

6 hours on it over the past 2 days.
been doing a bit of re-work.
reckon i've lost 4 hours putting things right.
did a dry-run on the hinges with a bit of bent wire
Image
then made the arms.
things were looking good until i tacked it together & the top of the door
fouled on the body.
had placed the hinge too close to the top of the door.
should know better :x
after a few choice words the hinge was re-located higher in the roof
& new arms made (sorry, mig welded. its a time thing now)
Image

more of a pain cos the higher hinge has less space to operate with the
top radius clearance & cranked arms had to be made.
they are bulky & incroach into the cabin but thats the price paid for a gull-wing door !

family day tomorrow.
building again mon am.

best rgds dan.

It must be a Roswell tradition to have to rework the hinges. Been there, done that. Now I wish I had put on a gull wing door. Too cool.

Fine work, Dan.

How about getting some old tennis balls and cutting them up to fit the corners of the hinge frames? I mention this as a large 'sympathetic bruise' has appeared on my forehead, just from me thinking what will happen when you sit up quickly in bed.....

what a cracking idea
rather a tennis ball imprint on my head than a 90 degree dent

2 hours faffing today.
not much to show for it but it needed doing.
this door is going to need more faffing applied, 8 hours worth at a guess !

got the floor & base insulation earlier along with a small bike sized numberplate.
best rgds dan.

You only bump your head on it once, trust me. One question from a merican, what is faffing?

That hinge looks to take up quite a bit of room and is a sure bruisemaker. I was thinking more like a 'C' shape
