Newbie looking for simple plan

Postby mikecormack » Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:09 pm

Hello everyone. Mike here from Portland, OR. I'm planning on building a fairly simple tear on the 4x8 Harbor Freight trailor. I've been doing a lot of reasearch and have a good idea of what features I'd like to include, but still looking for the right set of plans. Just wondering if anyone might have a suggestion for some easy to follow plans out there. I know there are free ones around, but I don't mind paying for them either. I'm looking for plans that include; insulation, aluminum skinning, and 12v/120 wiring, and we (me and the soon to be wife) tend to like the Benroy and cubby profile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ooh...also, if there are any fellow Portlanders out there, I'm having trouble finding local suppliers for the aluminum trim we will need.

Hi! Welcome.

I haven't built one (I have a vintage TTT), but there are a bunch of plans that look like they might be complete in the heading of this site under "Design Library". If they aren't complete, you can find which one you like, and ask about it.. someone might have thier own detailed plans.

Three that catch my attention as being simple and using that particular trailer are the Simple, the Rimple, and the Harbor Frieght Trailer Trailer for Two.

Good luck!

Welcome Mike.... sounds like you already gave it some thought.

I had the Kuffel Creek plans, and they are okay but frankly give way more detail to dovetailing joints and buildling an icebox (neither things I needed) and not much info about other things.

I hope you get a chance to see one in person, it makes all the difference. Raise the hatch, look close at the hinges, crawl underneath, lay inside and lift the tongue.

Good luck and Happy Camping !
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

Thanks for the advice. As I learn to navigate this site, I'm finding more and more valuable info that will certianlly help in our build. We hope to get started in the next month or so. We're (mostly me) really looking forward to having a winter project to keep us busy. If all goes well we will have a shiny new teardrop just in time for summer. :D

It doesn't get much simpler than the box that SmokeyBob built. You can see his build pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/smokeybob/ ... 1877906168

Mike...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...
