8-ft Cubby Question

Postby JohnF » Fri Oct 07, 2005 8:09 pm

Will a 10-ft aluminum sheet reach from the front of the Cubby across the top to the hinge point of the galley? If you have a Cubby and would check this I would appreciate it...planning a trip to buy the skins as part of parts gathering prior to starting. Thanks.

Plans call for 12' sheets but a 10' length will work.. Mine is roughly 9' from bottom front to hinge at galley.

JOhn,

Tony is right. I have a Cubby (see avatar) and it is 9ft from the front to the galley hinge spar point. Have fun building the Cubby!

Number of sheets and size?

Postby Rebel » Sat Oct 08, 2005 9:23 pm

I noted Kevin lists 4 sheets at 12' each, but as pointed out in your messages, it seems that, for the cubby, one needs two 8' sheets for the sides, a 10' sheet to the hatch and another 8' to do the hatch cover?

Would this be right? Thanks!

Rebel:

You are correct. But the supplier I bought from charges you for whole sheets, whether you shear them or not, thus the four 12' sheets. I found uses for most of the scraps, such as the inside walls of the galley, the bottom of the floor hatch, the icebox, etc.
