New, old stove

Postby Rick Sheerin » Sun Aug 16, 2009 10:31 am

Just got back from our Regional Market, where every Sunday is flea market sunday. I just bought a brand new, never used 1972 Coleman 425E stove for 25 bucks. Did I pay a fair price? And should I use it or just keep it as a display piece?

Brand new and never used....I would have paid 25$ for it. A new 424 from Wally World goes for well over 80$, much crappier construction. I'd also use it, but would baby it. I've only got 2 that work but won't use on a regular basis just because some of the parts are tough to get, (circa 1920's). You can get anything for that one. Nice find! Doug

Definitely a good stove to use. Well worth the $25! Just take care and watch out for the scorching due to the smaller size. My main "cooker" is a 1970's 413G that I bought never used. It had a bad rust spot on the front from being stored in a leaky garage, so I repainted the case and it looks and cooks like a charm.

Man reading I agreed with Doug. But my goodness that is nice. If you have another stove you may think of a great display. Man that is too nice to use. When I cook I get everything dirty and man I would not be able to use that one.

I'm puzzled  . What good is a stove if ya don't use it? Granted, it is a beauty, but all stoves were once new. Use it, clean it up, and use it again!
Of course, I've never been a 'display only' person. If'n I can't use it, I don't buy it.

Rick:
If it bothers you that much to fire it up, I'll trade you my well used one............even up!
I know what your saying though, I found a 40 year old 502 that was never used, and am having the same problem.
Nice find.
