Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I have looked at a few roof rack/baskets on here, mostly home made types, and a few that looked like factory made. But, when I googled or searched otherwise for one, can't find!! I have a 5' wide I would like to add one to it. Any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This one is patterned off one Len made...it's welded electrical conduit, painted, with ash slats.

Dave, I admire yours and the whole tear. How hard is it to weld conduit, and are there any specific plans or just "Eye ball" as you go along?

I've always cringed a little at the thought of mounting this roof rack made by ProRac. It's offered by Little Guy Trailer. But maybe others can attest to its capacity first hand or have opinions on this type of side mount with a roof rack on a teardrop.

Thanks Scott, I am looking more for a basket type, more for looks and adding a "changing room" off of it in the future.

It takes a real light touch to weld that stuff, and you need to grind the galvanizing off if you can. After I was done welding, I cheated and smeared JB Weld on the joints to make them look nicer.

On the bright side, I used a hole saw in the drill press to get a nice fit where the conduit butts up, and a regular conduit bender for the curve pieces. Everything was just eyeballed.

Juneaudave, I want a teardrop just like yours when I grow up! Nice job! How are the ash slates connected to the conduit? I am guessing screws through the bottom.

No disrespect to Spotman and the importance of his question, but understandably, this happens all the time with "Juneaudave". You literally stop a thread dead in its tracks whenever you post because of your stunning teardrop. It happened to me just a week ago when you posted in another thread. Therefore I submit to Mike that he ban you permanently from this forum for being just too much of a distraction with this incredible work of art that you have created. Either that or cover the thing up with a sheet will ya? :lol:

The look of a basket rack with wooden slates can't be beat, I love'em too. It reminds me of the roof racks on vintage VW Camper Buses. But for a changing room, have you considered just going with a pop up shelter? Outback Porta Privy Quick fast and easy?

I will make this comment, though ... that basket is on my personal TD, and I really thought I'd be taking it on & off a lot, but I use it all the time, so it stays! One thing I'd do different on my next one would be to put the cross bars closer together ... it's not always easy to get the heavier stuff centered over a bar, spread out like mine are ... :thinking:
