Widget frame question

Postby RogHodge » Fri Aug 28, 2009 5:27 pm

A question about the widget plans in the library- This may be my build if I ever get the funds and approval from the spouse :)
So the question is about the HF frame version- What is the need for the reconfigured tongue arrangement? Would it require a 2” ball? Could a guy reasonably build the thing without reworking the front end like that?
I'm getting bids to build a frame per the plans to compare
For those who would like to have a look I have a build journal and covet your feedback.

I'm not finding the HF version. I can only find the custom built chassis, which can accommodate the dropped floor.

Got a link to the HF chassis on the Widget?

Rog,

The foot well forward corners would be altered if the tongue frame members weren't moved forward. I think it would be a trip hazard. Perhaps Andrew could comment. HF hitch uses a 2" ball. After modifying a HF frame before I think the changes would be pretty easy.

Ah, I see, Andrew moved the tongue forward so that he could build a square (rectangular) dropped floor.

Sure you could build without modifying the chassis, but then you'd have to build a dropped floor like this...

Notice the angled corners where they have to clear the chassis...
