If in the event that that campground has a number of people already in it when we get there, and I can't imagine that it will....however...maybe we ought to formulate an alternate plan so that everyone knows it before we leave. Sounds like we will be able to fill it on our own. Just an idea. Doug

Doug
It dose look like we just might be able to fill the place up.

I do plan on being there Wensday, I was planning on camping out at the bigger one of the hot springs we found the last time we we're there,Then head over to the Glyph's early Thursday.

Before I go to the hot springs I'll go check out the Glyph's CG & I may end up staying there Wed night.

Doug I will try to make some direction signs, Just in case we have to relocate somewhere close buy. (Which I really don't think will happen)

Ken....just get there early....crank up some Led Zep...and tell the others in the area, "dude...wait till the rest of us get here....it'll be gnarly, totally awesome dude". Wander around in your night glow pants and talk to yourself, swinging an axe. I'll be there soon after to back ya up! Doug

The Bob Scott Campground between Austin & the Glyph's has 10 campsites, But the #10 campsite is a group site that will accomadate 30 but there is a $25 reservation fee, & sites 1 threw 9 have a crowding factor of 3 per site, But with TD's we should be able to fit more, I have never had a problem with the rangers in nev. due to crowding.

This is where we might think about doing the next Gathering we all will have to check it out & see.

Just a thought. (A possible alternative)

So do you think that Bob Scott should be the back up? I'm Ok with that... however 25$ for a reserved campsite isn't all that bad and we are guaranteed we got a spot for trailers. It's just such a drag when you have a group coming and have to fight to find spots....I'm up for just getting the Bob Scott thing but that's just me...Please, others vent, or voice opinions. I've camped up there in the mid 70's and it was enjoyable....Doug

I'm gonna try to talk Leah into coming out to this one ... she's my Native American ex-high school sweetheart who was supposed to be at the first one ... and if I can find the time to work a couple of bugs out, debut her 25th Anniversary Li'l Bear ...!

That could mean a 5-7 trailer tear-a-van coming from the Jefferson State area ... ...! We'll just have to wait & see ...

I'd be willing to put up the $25 reservation fee for the Bob Scott Group site as a fall back plan. I stopped there for a nap last July (2 thousand and eight), and it's a nice campground ... just not that same as Hickison, and you've got the noise (what little there is ... :o ...) of the highway just below you.

From my perspective, though, I think we ought to just plan on Hickison and make "take back the Glyphs" our rally/battle cry ...    ...!

First, piped water and flushed toilets? Where will it end?

Room service leaving mints on the pillows? :?

Ken,

I'll be in to Hickison about 6-7:pm Wednesday. I'll have a trailer full of stinking fish, that will clear them out. Arrrrrgh! :?
Seriously, I think we can pack us all in there without expanding the drivable area of the campground (anyone bringing a motor grader?) and use Bob Scott if needed. I've got to bug out Friday noonish to head up to Jackson, so that will free up a spot for folks arriving Friday.

I'd rather be camping.

just for the sake of counting heads, don't count me in the the total folks. Life has inflicted itself on us and I won't be able to make it :(

if anyone needs anything while going through Reno, give a holler. I will be around if assistance is required.

Sounds like we should start by parking with the thoughts that we will be doubling up.

As a warning I have been told I snore. This I do not know myself. But i have woke myself up singing in my sleep.

At least my trailer is insulated so another insulated trailer next to me might get some rest.

austin gathering

Postby curiouserand » Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:22 pm

This will be a first for me, at least with other tear droppers...I am looking forward to it; planning to leave Las Vegas Thursday night and stop somewhere outside Tonopah for the night...been wanting to take the highway up through the middle of the state...now that is the loneliest highway.....see you around 9-10 Friday am at the latest I suppose. I have a Little Guy and a bright yellow truck ( so I can find it in the parking lot...)Barb T.

The group site would be okay with me...from the look of your list it seems the people who said they are coming would easily fill up the Petroglyphs area...I never anticipated that so many would congregate in the middle of nowhere..it must be all the offers of shrimp and pirate talk...not to mention Moose Drool...Barb T.
