SIERRA NOMAD 1/31/11 did the mag. rack

It's kinda getting off to a slow start, but I've gathered up a lot of the necessary parts so far, (not shown). The axle came in with a dinged up stud and a rear seal that wasn't seated, so had to take it apart and take care of those items. Hopefully will have some steel yet this week. Doug

Hi, Doug:

I am thrilled that you are going to have a build thread for your upcoming trailer. (If you've done that before, I've never seen it.) This is a chance to learn things from a true master builder and artist; plus, there is a thrill to watching a creation evolve. It will be the next best thing to camping out in you shop! So, thank you for doing this.

It probably sounds funny; but, seeing what you have above reminds me of seeing a sonogram of a friend's soon-to-be child. It's exciting!

I may not chime in much on your thread but I'll be watching.

Love the white walls and the blue rims are rocking. Put some baby moons on them and it won't matter what the rest of the trailer looks like. You will have scored enough cool points with the axle to carry the rest of the trailer.

Why the name "Nomad," or do we have to figure it out by watching your build thread?

Moons and rings are on the "to do" list....picked up the tongue jack today, got a weldable fixed vertical one so that I can customize the install height on it. I probably won't do any serious frame layout till weekend after next....that's the Glyphs...I can then put 1 trailer away for the year after that. CD...don't read anything special into the name....I just wanted to call it that.... Doug

It would be sweet if you could get a aqua and white Chevy Nomad for a Tow Vehicle..... (Just thinking and dreaming of that combo.)

Sharon...sorry but I don't have that kind of coin laying around, at least not right now, like I ever did!. I agree though....In the meantime...I'll just do what I want, camp in it for a while and hopefully someone with the dough will love it and maybe make an offer. I find that I'm a lot happier to build what I want, use it as I please and if someone wants it, it's for sale. Doug

I think I see where the inspiration for the color scheme came from, that canister by the far wheel looks pretty close to the wheel color.

Looking forward to seeing another creation by you Doug.

10/18/09 started the frame.

Postby doug hodder » Sun Oct 18, 2009 6:39 pm

Steve E came by this morning and we laid it all out in chalk lines on the floor, cut up the iron and got at least the perimeter tacked together and the axle roughly positioned. I think we made decent progress for 5 hours of work counting the clowning around, only ruined 1 pair of pants with a tear! Hopefully I can wrap it all up next weekend with the cutting and welding portion. Thanks for the help Steve! Doug

Looking good Doug!

Do you have a sketch of the design? I am interested to see what you are doing with the drop in the frame on the passenger side. Looks like a door entry point for a standie.
