Calif to Mid West 1/2 Nelson trip is on again, 10/1

Postby Roly Nelson » Fri Sep 11, 2009 5:56 pm

The weather is finally cooler, my old shoulder is back to normal, and my 79 year old brother, is flying one-way from Illinois, to join me in our quest to traverse the deserts, rivers, mountains, plains and praries, back to his home town. We will be camping along the way in the little 4x8 Woody, and I've printed out all of the previous July invitations from so many of you forum members. I've got to get out my US map and the push pins, so we can plan which route we plan to take.

My big-brother has never seen my tear, and I really don't think he knows what he is getting into, (pardon the pun). He has a Winnebago back home, and getting back to the basics of camping, may well be a culture shock. Nevertheless, here we come, planning on leaving So Cal about the 1st of Oct. After I dump him off at his home in Rockford Illinois, I hope to visit the wonderful folks at Camp-Inn again, (Hi Betsie), and then on to lower Mich, to check out many of the lighthouses (Hi Mike and Chell). Got to go down to Elkhart and see the RV Museum, and perhaps to Kentucky, where my sweet daughter lives. Hmmm, I have a granddaughter in Tampa too, so a surprise visit to her might be in the works. The southern route back to So Cal would probably be wise, I understand there is snow in some parts of the US.

Anyway, that's the plan for now, looking forward to matching many forum names with faces and checking out their wonderful TD&TTTs on the way. Lets see, LA to CHI, about 2500 miles, no sweat, I drove it back and forth in 1952 on my honeymoon, down Old Route 66! That old '40 Desoto did just fine.

PS, if you don't look closely, you might think there are two Rolys, since we look an awful lot alike in our old age. I'll be touching bases with those interested, before the trip beguins. See ya at curb-side, or whatever.
:D 8) Roly, Old TDer, w/kinda-young-like ideas! (now which way do I turn the stearing wheel when I back this thing up?) :applause:

We actually have a lighthouse in Lake Orion...   Of course, you might be surprised what kind of a Lighthouse it is...
