So your "bedroom" is permanently attached? Please show us how!

Yes, the "bedroom" is permanently attached! The rear door is held up by guy wires that fold inside with the canvas. I thought about using support legs on the outside of the door but figured it would be a pain getting it level. So the preset length of guy wire keeps the bed level as long as the trailer itself is level! I am taking it camping this weekend so I will snap some pics of it for ya!

As far as the table, I got it from the kitchen of my house. I'm told that it came with the house when new (1957) so I have no idea where to get them! I'm sure that it wouldn't be hard to build!

great job. Is there any smell from the heater I know my smell really bad in confind spaces.

I have never had really any smell from this heater, maybe a slight odor at most. I plan on using electric heat where practacle and propane as suppliment...

Code: Select all
When I first saw your Dometic unit I thought it was one of the ice boxes that looks like a refrigerator. No outside venting seems to support that idea. But the picture with the door open looks like there is an evaporator at the top. Or am I seeing it wrong?

The dometic is lp/dc! I am only using the dc portion because I didnt expect to be using one at all! With the $500+ pricetag it wasn't originally in the budget. I happend across this unit on craigslist for $40 and it worked so in it went... It is however a power hog so hopefully I can get the lp portion of it going soon!!

very nice job!
add a solar panel on the roof, and you'd be truly off grid! :)

you can buy tables similar to that at IKEA.

just one thought. isn't that a bit of wasted space under the sink, and over the fridge? i would've thought it would be a good place for drawers or a cupboard. i wonder if there would be enough space under the sink for a porta potty drawer?

If you look to the right of the lp tank and under the electric hookup, you will see a "hose spicket" thats the main water in, as far as the rest of the hot water on demand, it has a splice from the main "cold" water line that goes to it, then the out is piped to the hot water valve at the sink and shower...

The space under the sink was originally going to house the fresh water tank, however this thing ended up heavy enough and the front/back weight ratio would have been way off... One of those safety over function calls... All the trailer needs for off the grid camping is the lp portion of the fridge hooked up. I have a 7 gallon portable tank that has a pump rigged on top that i can hook into the main water inlet. The pump is 12 volt and is controlled by a switch above the sink. The lights can operate off of the battery for 2 weeks and my jeep can charge that fairly quickly through the trailer connector.

There are a lot of things that I would do a little bit different on another build but I had to start and learn somewhere. We currently have over 2000 miles and 8 nights on it and it has worked out pretty good!! Just got back from hershey park tonite! I mite start on a bigger one that will incorp some of the ideas like solar and toilet that everyone has given me. And something with a little more room with the kids and to torture my Jeep Liberty a little more....

Water tanks?

Postby tbandnick » Mon Apr 12, 2010 2:03 pm

I just got inspired to convert my cargo trailer and found this great forum. Would you please elaborate on where you installed the water tank. Also the waste water tank too.

Great job!!!
Tell me more about your shower....did you build it, or did you buy a whole shower assembly? We're considering a shower in ours, but RV showers cost quite a bit.

There are no water tanks on my trailer, it uses campground water and sewer.

I bought the shower pan off of ebay and the walls are fiberglass that you can buy from any h/i store!! Then just caulk the seams!!

Jeep9806....I really like your canvas bedroom set up. The Wells Cargo factory rep told me about a company that was selling those for around $700.00 Kind of pricey but makes for a lot more room when camping.
