Within inches of the battery. Make less wire to replace if you screwed up your installation!

What sort of cutoff switch is good and not too expensive? I assume it should be rated for at least 30A.

Very cheap at Harbor Freight if you have access to one. Nothing to really go wrong with them.

Anywhere it will be VERY easy to access.

Pics! I need pics of a cut off switch and how you mounted it.

I'm in the process of wiring my Little Guy for 12V and have never really worked with electricity before.

I'm using 8 ga (trolling motor) wire from the battery to my fuse box (only thing I could find in familiar red/black). I hope/think this should be big enough from what I've read here.

Will a 30A Maxi fuse work for an inline master fuse?

I have my battery on the tongue inside a tongue box. I drilled a hole on one side of the box and installed a Harbor Freight 12V switch. Very convenient location--I don't have to open up the tongue box (I keep it locked) to disconnect the battery.

I do have to say however, that the first switch I installed became intermittent, and I finally replaced it with another new HF switch. I'm not sure of the failure mechanism, but I suspect dust as the culprit. Anyhow, I now carry a spare switch just in case. Good thing they are less than $5.

I put my battery in the tongue box with a 30A fuse about 6" from the post. The main 30A fuse is in the little red holder just poking out of the battery box:

I put the cut off switch in the galley next to my volt meter and fuse panel. I like how it turned out. I'm sorry but I do not have a picture how it was wired but Miriam's post is good info.
