Ya know... I've seen traffic completely stopped on highways for just your average accident. I was surprised to see troopers allow traffic by this aggressive fire with the flame and plume of smoke going in the direction of the cars. There's also a high likelihood of propane gas explosions with RV's too. ..... Scott G.

And the tires were spitting out pieces of themselves, as they burned. Saw several in the video. I too wondered about letting the traffic go by!

Stopping traffic depends on alot of factors.
Its an interstate so full stop of traffic is a last resort. Local regs play alot into this.
from the dashcam there is a single truck crew on scene. 1 officer blocking 2 traffic lanes. Not enough people to stop all the traffic. People will drive around a single officer. We've pulled an Engine across 2 lanes to stop traffic and some one will attempt to drive around it on the shoulder.
we also don't have all the info- The "hood" is up on the RV leads me to believe the occupants are out of the RV - so responders may have some info on the status to Propane or lack of.

The Vids OP has a few other Vids on I95 where they do shut down the interstate. Car fire turned grass fire, truck fire

I think the reason Traffic is still moving in the RV vid is lack of personnel on scene.

I had a co-worker that had that happen to her. She and her husband sold their home and bought a brand new motor home so he could take his home with him to whatever state he happened to be working in. (He was a contractor.) She went down to AZ to visit him and they took off in the motor home for a weekend vacation. But, he forgot to turn off the propane before they left. When they realized the motor home was on fire, they had just seconds to get out, which they did with just the clothes on their backs. It was a total loss in more ways than one. When they tried to get their insurance to pay for the loss, they found out that the husband had forgotten to pay the insurance bill.

That's got to be like getting punched hard in the stomach many, many times. :crying2:

I know people already posted but letting cars drive by was a very poor decision. The fire departement should have know better. There was a similar fire on the local highway and they didn't notice when the propane tank blew up that it sent some piece on a house by the highway....well they had to call for a fire truck and there was some good damage to the house.

I only watched a minute or two. Did the firetruck ever try to fight this fire? Or did they just watch?

A vehicle fire is one of the most helpless feelings. I emptied 3 fire extinguishers on my TV last year before the fire truck got there. Then they got the jaws of life out to cut the hood off.

Sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach...

It was, they didn't want to either. I was able to replace it with almost an identical vehicle, one year newer.

An Engine showed up at the end and started to put the fire out. The 1st Fire truck in the Vid, is a "Squad or Truck" they have all the gear not related to fire suppression. Jaws of life, Extra Air bottles, a way to refill air bottles support structures/cribbing etc..
