Another New Michigander

WOW!!!!! I found this site over the weekend and just flat out impressed. I love doing things myself, building a pole barn (micro bakery/sugar house),gardening, fishing and playing with antique tractors. With fuel Prices of last summer we are looking to find a better way to travel. The tent is ok but I do most of the set-up and cooking. Sleeping on the cot beats the ground but still does'nt cut it. This teardrop thing looks like the cats meow for me. Now to get the better half to concider this as she tends to be closterphobic. We found a home built unit just a couple miles away and we are going to give it a look over to see if see can do this. The oldest son and d-in-l are geeked too when I showed them this site. He wants to build a campster already. Keep the info coming please and I'll just watch for a while and get more ideas thanks Herb

Have a contest to see who can finish first. Loser buys the winner a Dutch Oven. That will keep you motivated and get you camping sooner.

hey Herb,
Dig right in. The juice is worth the squeeze. Plenty of information here to make informed decisions. If the wife is a little claustro like mine just go a bit bigger. Enjoy your build.

I need a new Avatar. I'd put my dog up there but she doesn't look much like me. She's the skinny one.

 The wife might just be an board with this. She called me on her way home yesterday and found what may be a salvage pop-up along the side of the road. I'm sure glad I took the truck away from her. She's a salvager/scronger but I have to deal with all the trash stuff.

I built my standy on a popup frame. The frame was fine but the tongue was a bit wimpy for my 2200 pounds. Replaced it last year. It was a Coleman and very thin. I've seen other camper brands much more substantial. If the wife will feel a little cramped use the full popup frame size. Best advise is do what feels good. Fret about it some, that is a big part of the fun.

That scroungin' will save you a ton of $$$ on a home build. I utilized a bunch of good "Junk" in my build. I mean like a handrail frame
