Here are my two most recent quilts.
New baby quilt for my soon to be born grandson. The parents wanted a qulit based on Charley Harper birds.

Quilt I just completed of a Swainson's Hawk for an upcoming Audubon fundraiser.


Both are fusible applique, machine pieced, and machine quilted. The bird has a significant amount of "thread play" or machine embroidery on it that is not very visible in the photo.

Very well done Debbie! Those are certainly keepsake items...make sure that you label up the back of the one for the grandbaby with a date etc....I think everyone ought to label a quilt...it's the only way that the story will be remembered and who the quilter was years from now. Doug

Very nicely done & very creative.

I'm thinking about making a quilt for my nephew's first child which is supposed to be a boy too. I haven't decided just how I want to do it as I want to make a quilt that doesn't look to babyish and a boy would enjoy over a number of years but works for a baby too.

My sister-in-law made a simple teddy bear quilt for my daughter and she took that to bed for years & years, long after she was out of a crib. To me that makes a successful quilt, one that is used and enjoyed by the child.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with quilts but my mom just gave me one of my dad's Navy issue blankets that is 60 years old. It is made of wool and in mint condition. I'm going to use it in my Scotty during the winter camping season.

Apparently I never posted (at least in this thread) my quilt I made for my tear! It has appliqued whales to go with our whale theme. It is hand quilted and machine pieced and hand appliqued. It has matching curtains, pillow cases and even a ice chest cozy. (I bought way tooo much fabric!)

I can see that we have the beginnings of a Reno-area teardropping-birdwatching group among us. My husband is editor of the newsletter for the Plumas Audubon Society. We do a lot of birding in Sierra Valley. I keep thinking we should tow the tear out there and park overnight...

Yes, that sounds like a great idea! We built the tear mostly so we could bird more! The Swainson's is for Audubon's Wine and Art Auction we are headed to Reno for in a few hours. Teardrops and birding, a natural! While I am on a roll, here are a few more quilts. The American White Pelican and Great Blue Heron were also raffle quilts for Spring Wings Bird Festival in Fallon, NV a few years ago. The other two are baby quilts for my first two grandchildren. The mountains, gulls and rivers quilit was for my son's baby (my son is Policy Director fo Nevada Conservation League). The other was for my stepdaughter's baby. Her daddy is from Brazil so jungle was necessary, as well as the Brazilian flag on the back. Unlike my otherquilts, which I designed myself, these baby quilts are patterns (the Brazialian flag is my own design), but they are still my "masterpeices" as they are so detailed with so many pieces. String piecing, paper piecing, applique and traditional patchwork. Machine quilted.

I have an Army issue blanket that was my dad's. Probably 60+ years as well. I keep it in the tear and man is it warm.

LOVE your great blue heron quilt and your mountains quilt, but the jungle quilt is FABULOUS! Truly a masterpiece!

Harry says he'd have had us going to Lahontan Audubon's fundraiser this weekend, except for the small matter of having no funds. We have birded with a couple Lahontan field trip leaders on eco-tourism development projects in years past, and appreciated their company and accomplishments very much.
