Was wondering if when you instal your fenders dose everybody instal a gasket between the fender and the trailer wall or just the fender against the wall.

Seen it done both ways and even a time or two with a Fender welt! - Guess it's just personal preference. Perhaps one instance to use a gasket is maybe with Aluminum skins to keep dissimilar metals from reacting - but if going with fiberglass fenders then it a moot point, just preference.

I went with a 1/4 welt with fiberglass fenders. Like was said with the woody and fiberglass fenders not really necessary, but I wanted the black welt for the finished look and the contrast. Bought it at the same place as the fenders. I had to trim a little to mame it work but it came out fine.

Thanks for the info.Have bought the 11" Kenskills from Grant,and will be installing them against aluminum skins.The fender welt lppks realy good on your TD.Gives it that finished look.I think I will go that route also.

I put some rubber seals on my fenders before attaching them. The rubber is not visible, but it is there, and as I tightened the attaching screws, the rubber seals compressed, so I should have a good seal.

John, I have used a 3/16x1" closed cell foam weatherstip on both fiberglass and steel fenders and have been VERY HAPPY with the results...applied to the flat flange and even with the top edge, it gives some cushioning, sealing and a nice finished look with either type of fender...I like it!!!!!!

My teardrop fiberglass fenders bolted directly to the wood. I put a bead of black silicone in the crack between the two to keep dirt out, gave it a nice finished look, But it wasn't an original idea, got it from Doug. Good point made above about dissimilar metals.
