Greets from the frozen north ...

Postby TallyCast » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:37 pm

North Florida that is, but still plenty cold for me. I'm in the planning stages of a trailer project. Before I get started, I have some clearing out of old projects (including selling a boat and trailer). I'm going to be asking a lot of questions and will try not to be too big a PITA.

Thanks for the resource and the community and all the fun to come.

Welcome aboard, I suppose if you are selling your boat that may the last time you will receive that welcome, anyhow ask all the questions you need i am sure that someone will know the answer. Building and camping in a tear is the great way to meet new friends and enjoy new experiences. Be sure to post plenty of pics, we love our pics.

Cheers Dave

The trailer in your photo looks really lovely and is an inspiration to a newbie. I know I'll never be able to trim mine out as tight as yours. Still, it's just good to know that someone out there has the skill set. Beautiful work Dave.

The boat is for sale. I'm going to look at the trailer this weekend. It's a painted steel trailer that has been used exclusively in salt water so it has a few issues. If I can find someone foolish enough to buy just the boat, then perhaps that trailer is a possibility for being a platform for the teardrop.

I appreciate the welcome from both of you.

Welcome from Asheville!

Postby Alfred » Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:22 pm

Hey Welcome from out West! The beautiful mountains of Western NC, that is!

Welcome to the group!

You will find this is a great group of friendly and helpful people - They've been a tremendous resource for me!

I'm from Florida originally, born/raised in Tampa Bay area, lived in Gainesville for 8 years at UF (Go Gators). After 42 years in the Sunshine State I heeded the mountains' call and moved up here to Asheville about 3 years ago.

Keep us posted to your progress and post pictures!

Hello Tally Cast, your timing is perfect. I am planning a trip back to the midwest and down to Florida, and will be bringing my carpentry tools and long-time knowledge of teardrop building with me. I can devote a few months helping you construct a perfect teardrop trailer to your liking.

Now, if you belive that, I have a bridge to sell you. Hurry up and sell that boat, and get busy altering that trailer. Some real nice teardrops have been built on an old boat trailer. All you need is the desire to make it happen, a few bucks in your pocket and a little time, and you will soon be one of us. I am serious about visiting Florida, but not so serious about jumping in and actually getting involved with the build.

However, if you want some kind of, off of the wall advice, let me know and I will do the best I can to lead you astray. Good luck on your build, take pics, post em and we'll see you at a local gathering.
Roly, :? 8)

...for making an old guy welcome. I went and looked at trailers at tractor supply and harbor freight today. Tomorrow, I'm going to spend some time examining the boat trailer. I really like your teardrop Steve.

Thanks Dave,

The teardrop left Florida about a few days ago and has gone to live in Minnesota. Actually it's getting the royal treatment and has never looked better.

Update from frozen north.

Postby TallyCast » Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:15 pm

So the wife and I talked about a teardrop, looked at designs, ordered plans and started cleaning up for a trailer build when a fiberglass Lite House trailer dropped into our laps. It's 11+ ft long, 5 ' wide and we can stand up in it. The price was right. It's going for a shakedown cruise this weekend, and then we have a place picked out for it in the back yard near our fire ring until our spring time music festival run.

For me, the best feature of the teardrop is the outside kitchen and I hope to avoid doing any heavy cooking inside the little Lite House. I may still have a teardrop in me, but I'm putting off thinking about it.

I'm going to try to post a couple of photos here if I can figure out how.

Davie
