In the picture of your trailer there are metal "tabs"? attached to the frame. What are these for? Are they flat peices of metal or angle iron welded on? Just wondering because I need to design a frame for mine and I'm always looking for those little "Extra" Things I can do to make things better. Thanks

Those are welded angle iron tabs I used to secure the floor with. I didn't build a floor like many have. Mine is just a sheet of plywood sealed and secured to the frame. I used a forstner bit to sink the head and bolted thru the ply and the tab. http://www.tnttt.com/gallery/image.php?image_id=2067 The square pencil line is where the tab was under the ply. I drilled thru and secured with carrage bolt and nylock. It the bottom right of the picture (you can barely see it) is a small tab I welded for the side wall to set on (I wanted my frame covered). I hope you know my comments about the angle iron were just yank'n your chain. I was being facetious because lots of people on here insinuated that angle iron wouldn't work for a frame when I was building mine, but it seems to be just fine. Oh, and it seems to be just fine for the CampInn also.

lol, I'm well aware of that. most small utilty trailers out there use angle for everything. Certainly will work for a 1/2 ton teardrop

Figured I'd fill Ya'll in on some details.

Budget is $2000, Though I'd like to stay under $1500, Rather doubtful that that is going to happen.
My goal is to be 'complete' by April 1st.
Design is an 8' Jim Dandy built on a 46"x83" Frame. Shooting for ~250lbs for the bare trailer and under 1000 for the finished trailer.
Plan is for a sole 12 volt system. We'll see how that develops later on I guess.
Tenative plan is to use CPES/Uniflex 255 for the outer coating. Checking on how well it can be painted if I decided to 'Design' something on there.

Haven't decided if I can justify the extra $75 for the Torflex axle yet. Need to check around with a few other local suppliers.

Any and All of this is open to suggestions, Other than the frame size, That steel's already cut....

BG, I have a budget too, but who can keep anything under budget...LOL. I started a spreadsheet to calculate expected costs (not actual...that is always more, so I usually add 10% for overruns) but haven't put in all of the materials yet.

I've already spent just over $400 at HF this past weekend, but that was mostly in the tool department and tools will be used on other projects in my workshop (I'm a sucker for buying tools and fishing tackle whether I need it or not). I guess I spent under $30 on stuff that will go into the trailer like GFCI outlets, wire shrink wrap, and a float charger to keep the batteries up while at home.

Joanne, where did you get that front window? Does the center lift up? That is a perfect size for my trailer.

Made a fair bit of progress today even though it didn't look like I would at first.

Turns out that I hadn't cut my 45's perfect, or even close for that matter. The old blade in the bandsaw was quite worn and had alot of slop in it.

I also came up with an idea that eliminates the $40.00 piece of reciever tubing and replaces it with $5.00 worth of angle Iron.

It's all clamped at the moment. Gotta dig my square out of the storage building and but some more welding rod...

As the frame lays... It's right at 100 lbs.

Well 2x2x0.25" tubing is $2.70/ft Gotta buy 20' and have to get over there by noon on a saturday.... A road worth tongue will wait till next paycheck

I don't know about everyone else, but I couldn't see those 5 pictures. As for cutting the metal, I have a miter saw and will put a 10" metal cutting disk in it. At the moment, I have a 7" metal disk one of my circular saws for cutting some rebar. That might cut the angle iron OK too. A 7" disk for a circular saw only costs a couple of bucks.

I tried it with firefox too...still no images. when I try to view the image, it says "error detail". I've seen this problem before, some see it and some don't, and still don't know why it happens.
