I see you've had what I call trailer gremlins at your house! (Those are the little imaginary imps that cause problems like clogged plumbing to keep you from working on your trailer.) So, now I know where they went when they left my place....must've traveled through the internet. Keep working on your trailer and the trouble-causing gremlins will give up and go away.

PS. Don't send those gremlins back this way. I don't want 'em!

Hey Sharon,

I know - I keep thinking they're like those little gremlins from the Family Circus cartoon, as in: "Argh! Who flooded the bathroom and the basement and soaked my camper!"??? Answers: "Ida know" and "Not me"!

Hey Gang,

I sent an email to the Rot Doctor at http://www.rotdoctor.com, inquiring about the Uniflex 255 marine paint that Mike S., recommended on his original weekender build pages here: http://www.mikenchell.com/weekender/skinning.html

The Rot Doctor site currently shows Uniflex 255 only coming in color of flint gray, which is not my first choice of color. Anyway, received this response, which I thought I would share with y'all:

Al,

Actually, the Uniflex 255 has been replaced with an almost identical product that is somewhat safer to use...our ColorCoat Aliphatic. We do have it in four colors, white, tan, medium brown and a gray. We will be getting the information on our website soon, but we do have it in stock at $124.96/gallon. The application is the same as the Uniflex, as is the coverage and the recommendation of two coats. ColorCoat also is 100% waterproof.

Feel free to come back if you have additional questions. If you wish to order you can do so via phone 206 364 2155 or our secure on-line order form https://secure.rotdoctor.com/12order-S.html . Shipping time to Asheville NC would be five business days.

Yes, I'm looking for a more cost effective approach. I am guesstimating 5 gallons to double-coat the camper - Too expensive for my current budget.

Cutting the inner ceiling for vent

Postby Alfred » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:46 pm

Hey Gang,

In keeping with Aunt Miriam's sage advice that if I do even just a little bit on the camper every day, I will at some point arrive at the end of this journey...

Tonight, after a long day of attention to other things, I went down and cut the opening in the ceiling's inner skin where the Fantastic Vent fan will be...
Image

Image

Having finished the cut, I couldn't resist dropping in the vent and popping in a couple of windows, to get a peek what it might look like when it is done, and daydream about camping in it for a few minutes...

You're doing great, Al. It must be a thrill to be able to daydream inside your camper with the walls and ceiling up and surrounding you. Keep up the good work!

9/19/09 Update

Postby Alfred » Sat Sep 19, 2009 9:12 pm

Hey Gang,

My friend David from the T&TTT forum came over today and we spent the afternoon camper building.

The rear inner skin is glued in place and propped with supports for drying. This means most of the inner skin work is done.

Image

Quite a bit of the insulation is done. Used two layers of 3/4 in" to make 1 1/2" of insulation in the ceiling. I am going to use foam spray insulation to fill the gaps, including where the wires are running.

Image

This is a picture where the wires leave the ceiling and run behind the wall to the electrical box area.

Image

In the front, started working on a small bin storage area/shelf below the front window. This also acts as an additional front bulkhead. We are also working on a shelf above the window, which will have the 110v plugs and the 12v plug.

Image

This is some very nice trim I picked up at Home Depot, which I am going to use on the front shelves and bins.

Image

The camper continues to come together. The kids came out and 'helped' some this afternoon, too. All in all a very nice day!

Hey Chip,

Yeah, I missed the gathering in Lexington, NC this weekend (Drat!), although I put the Saturday to good use working on the camper at home. I am going to keep at it, I think possibly Davidson River will be a go. I already have the camp site reserved. Hope it doesn't get too cold. We like to froze there overnight in the tent last year!

I keep marking them on my calendar though - October is Davidson River, November is the one near St. Augustine in Fla, December is Myrtle Beach. I'm gonna get to one or all of them. We'll see!

Hey John,

I don't know - This has been a family topic of debate from time to time. For now, the working title has been "Weekender for 5", but I think I need to come up with something better.

I thought of calling it "Harvey (the little RV)" but that went over like a lead balloon at the family discussion.

The kids kind of like "The Happy Camper" or "The Happy Family Camper".

We have to come up with something soon, though, so we'll know what to call it when we break the bottle of ginger ale across the bow for the Christening!
