Just took the teardrop plunge!

Postby emmen » Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:30 pm

Hello everybody!
While this is not my first post (I've asked a few questions in the last month), it is officially my first post as a teardropper owner.

Just today, we signed the contract authorizing the great folks over at Camp-Inn to start building our new 560. Cary says that if all goes well, we can expect to pick it up in Wisconsin by the end of October.

Image

Three months ago, we didn't even know what a TD was - but we happened to see one while driving and fell in love with the whole idea.
I spent many nights reading about them, looking at used models, considered building my own, but in the end we were drawn to the Camp-Inn product because of its apparent high quality and excellent reputation.

Also, as we have one child - a four-year-old daughter, the Camp-Inn 560 had extra appeal because of the sofa / bunk-bed design.
Image Image

We started with the 560 Ultra, and then we added options....
It would have been faster just to tell Cary what options we didn't want, because I think we ended up adding just about everything possible.
....Once the trailer costs this much already, what's another few thousand.... cough...cough...

Some of you gave me lots of helpful advice making decision about the build - thanks so much!

We also got a chance to chat with a few Western Washington TDers at the LeMay Auto show on Saturday - there were about 20 to 30 teardrops on display there - quite a neat collection.

Anyhow, thanks for a great forum, and I hope to be able to post some progress photos as they are available.

Evan

Well that's some quick progress Evan. From not knowing to purchasing one of the finest around in under six months. Way to go.

I bought my first rig last December (a Little Guy 6-wide) so I can appreciate how you feel right now. Congrats on your purchase. You paid a pretty penny for it but I can't imagine that you will be anything less than completely thrilled, especially since you can accommodate your daughter in there with you. It will be a wonderful way for your family to spend quality time together.
Make sure you post some pics of your first outing.

The 560 "Ultra" is just that in design and craftsmanship. You are buying a top of the line teardrop today and an heirloom for the future. :applause: :applause: :applause:

Wow! That's great! I saw a Camp-Inn at a gathering awhile back. They are a beautiful little camper.

AL in Asheville

Congratulations on one nice camper.

I have never seen one before. I can see in the photos that it is well built. They have tools that that most of us do not have. Keep the photos coming.

My husband visited their shop shortly after we caught the bug and was EXTREMELY impressed with the shop, the people, and the campers. Fit and finish were awesome. Congratulations! This is so exciting!

New progress photos:

Postby emmen » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:33 am

It's been another week and they have made lots of progress - working on the electrical (and audio/video) wiring now...

The distinct 560 shape is starting to show

This view shows where the couch/bunkbeds will go below the panoramic window.
There is also the cutout for the sunroof.

Closeup of what will be the utility cabinet on right side of galley.

Apparently, all electrical wiring is to one side of the unit.

What I can't wait to see is the custom speaker boxes they are building to house the Inifinity speakers in the cabin and galley - Hopefully those will be in next weeks batch.

Evan, good for you, taking possesion of the finest teardrop beng built. However, since Camp-Inn dosen't make a woody, I, know that their rig is far superior to any home-built or hastely manufactured unit, that is on the market today. Enjoy your new toy, and be proud that you have the very best example of quality craftsmanship available in the teardrop world. Hey, you made a good choice, but be prepared to take an extra hour to gas up your tow vehicle, due to the lookie-loos that will want a thorough display of your new pride and joyl

Oh if you would have only contacted me, I could have gotten you a 50 percent discount on that beautiful Camp-Inn..(you're welcome, Cary) See you in about 3 weeks, Betsie, give or take a few days!
Roly, probably the oldest teardropper in the whole world.......... and counting
