Ken
The axle on the NT 5x8 trailer that I bought is all ready moved to the rear. It's about 37 inches from the rear of the trailer. And the axle is mounted above the springs making the trailer frame lower. That's why I bought it. And the price was hard to beat.
I did think the tongue design was a little weak so I had it reinforced. :)

Hi everyone,

I am trying to decide which frame to purchase too. I want to build a camper similar to the Alegria II. There is a camper kinda like it by DougH that also has my interest.

DougH used a TSC #1000215 4x8 trailer, but extended the wood floor to 5x8. I do not actually like the way the floor has to be made for this one, but I do like the way the wheels are covered by the camper.

I just called Northern Tool in Hickory NC. They have four 5x8 #125976 carry-ons in stock @ $369.99 each. This Saturday they will be 10% off, that's $333. It's looking like the NT trailer is winning. :D

Can't go wrong with that one. I have purchased a couple from that store during the 10% off sale. You will need to strengthen the tongue. Either extend it back to the next cross member or add "Y" bracing. Done both, seems to have worked. Good Luck with your project!

shopfabricator,

I took a look at your album. I do like your standie, but I drive a Subaru Forester and I must keep the weight down to about 1000#. I would guess your rig goes about 2000# or better? Also, I may cut the height down some so I can get in our 7' garage door. That's not in concrete, just a thought I'm having.

Hi Gang,

I bought the NT 5x8, been very happy with it. Mine came already welded together and with axle lowered. I got it about a 18mos ago on sale for $279.00. It is made by the same company that makes the TSC trailers.

Hey Steve, The aluminum clone finished at 6'11@1/2" off the ground and weight was 1275lb minus clothes and food. A standy that fits in the garage can be done. :D
