Original Song Question

Postby Classic Finn » Sat Sep 26, 2009 9:21 am

Hello from the Sunny Arctic ;)

I have to ask since we are debating about a song that is one of my favorites.

Did Gordon Lightfoot write this song originally or if not who did? If you could read my mind is the song title.

Ive always heard it performed by Gordon Lightfoot. Doing some guitar jammin with a friend of mine here in the yard. I do enjoy playing it myself.

Sure wish I could see him perform.

Wishing you folks a nice weekend.

Thank You for that info Jack. Sure love his songs. Dont know why but this song is one of my favorites. ;)

Thought it was difficult to learn to play but I found myself wrong. :) :) Wish I had a 12 string to play it on though. Would sound much better.

Thanks

Does anybody find it odd that Barry Manilow did not write the song 'I write the Songs'?

Wow, this goes a long way back... I got a Gordon Lightfoot album for Christmas many many moons ago... I can't remember the name of the album, but I think it was in the 1970's...

Here's another youtube song if you are interested...

If you could read my mind...

A favorite of mine, besides the ubiquitous 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,' is 'Pony Man'. Such a sweet, story-like song, so great for little kids. My husband is a guitar player, and he's learning it for my niece for next summer around the campfire.

I've always liked Gordan Lightfoot and his music. Went to see him in concert at Massey Hall in Toronto in the early eighties and was very disapointed.
He was so wasted he couldn't even remember the words of the songs. We left halfway through. It was unfortunately, a waste of money. Sometimes, it's better just to know the singer by his music......
