Boyce teardrop info wanted

Postby doug hodder » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:09 pm

Does anyone have any background/info on the Boyce manufactured teardrops? I can come up with only 1 pic of one from the early 60's. Shape is very similar to a Benroy. Rare or no? Thanks in advance. Doug

Well, a potential deal is or maybe was in the works. I guess I can't keep everyone from doing a search. Stupid me. Doug

I don't know much about them, Doug ...

... I've got an original business card somewhere in my archives, but that's about it. I've seen a small hand full, but they all seemed to date to the late '50s or so ... probably about as rare as an original Grasshopper, but not as valuable, as there isn't anything particularly unique about them. But, hey ... a teardrop is a teardrop, right ... ;) ...?

The ad says it has been redone, but it does not look the same as the picture posted in this thread. The galley is not the same, and the side doors are a different shape.

If the frame is really a Boyce, I suppose it could be fixed to be more correct.

Me too! That's actually my trailer in the picture, but it didn't belong to me then. I did find an email for Mr. Boyce (son I think) but he never wrote me back, he might not check that particular email any longer.
I understand he lives very near me too. The Boyce trailer in the picture lives in Redlands, California. 3 families in Redlands have owned it, but I don't know how it got from Hawthorne to our area originally.

Hi Doug.

The Boyce pictured was owned by Victor Orenco in Redlands, Calif. Most of the information I have comes from Victor. I own a Boyce teardrop that I have owned for about 12 years. While I have modified the fenders, it's essentially original.

The Boyces were built in Hawthorne CA, and less than 100 were manufactured by Boyce in his one man shop. Boyce built all his trailers for the So. Cal. rental market. Because folks would rent them for vacations and weekend jaunts, and tear them up because they didn't own them, very few still exist. The one pictured, mine, and one that use to reside in Montana but is now lost, are the only remaining Boyces I am aware of.

Each Boyce rented had a large red number on the back of the trailer, and mine was # 82. All Boyces had the waffle pattern on the sides and I believe they were the only tears that did have the waffle pattern.

You are welcome to email me at onthecreek7@msn or call me at 208-775-4507 for more information - Bill Lynn
