Our first frost tonight

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

We've had a lot of gatherings in Wisconsin and Illinois lately. How about one in Minnesota? Any suggestions?

I'd be happy with Jay Cooke (since I've never been there) but Greg and Paul (the first two people to post on this topic) are from North Western Minnesota.

It's going to 2 tonight which is 30 something and it's raining cold rain. I'm glad my Moto-mate is small, and I think that I'll ask my beagle to sleep in the trailer this weekend at Cranberry Lake. I need to find the thread about heating a trailer and not suffocating in the process.

I use a small electric heater. It has a thermostat and fan. Also has a low/high setting.

OK Sandy, It looks like it's just you and I so far. Anyone else interested in camping at Jay Cooke State Park one of these October weekends?

I think we waited too long for Jay Cooke ~ I was on the DNR site just yesterday and there were still electric spots open the weekend of the 16th and now they're all booked. There are spots open the following weekend 23-25 with electric but the flush toilets and showers close on the 19th with the average low of 32 degrees for that time of the year.

There are spots open during the week ~ I'm not sure if you are able to camp during the week or not. In fact, during the week it looks like you'd have the park almost to yourself.

Jay Cooke definitely has to go on the spring/summer list though. The walking and bike paths ~ swinging bridge and overlooks are what have put this park on my "to do" park list.

Summer of 2010 I'm hoping to take a few weeks and do the Superior Circle Tour. It would be fun to caravan or have people join on parts of the trip. Right now I plan on jump starting from Jay Cooke. I have the info and now just have to decide where to stop, for how long, and what to see along the way. I've been to all of the Minnesota section, the sectioin from MN to Bayport, WI and then the Upper UP, but I've never taken the time to go full circle. I think i'll map out my plans and then post it in the Midwest forum and anyone who wants to join for all or part of the trip certainly can.

I just got off topic ~ easy to do. I'm still game for October camping !!

Sorry. I work during the week and after some issues this summer, I have very little PTO available.

There are always some first come first serve sites at the state parks. Also we don't have to get electric sites. My battery will last over 3 days without being plugged in.

Another option is to go to a State Forest Campground. They are rustic (no electicity or showers) and first come first serve, but they are usually not full even on summer weekends.

Another option is to check out a Wisconsin Park, just over the border. Too many options? I'm game for anything. I just want to camp at least once more this year.
