When I was stationed at McDill AFB back in the 70's , the wife and I found a case of frozen orange juice laying in the road . Just beginning to thaw and we were thrilled !!Times were hard back then .

we call that "dumpster-diving"....

Yeah, but did you ever think someone could make a living at it?

AL

Actually . . . . dumpster diving is one of our oldest daughters favorite past times and jobs. We call her our dumpster diving, garage sale going, good will shopping, gambling fool of a daughter..
She really does make great profits also. She just sold a platter for $40 that she bought for $4. A little off topic here She does pick item up from the road also.

Charles picks stuff up all of the time from the road. I personally am afraid i'll get ran over.

Olga and I have lived in the Siskiyou National Forest for well over 30 years. The highway we live on curves sharply just before our driveway. Right at our driveway there are lots of blackberry bushes. Our highway is traveled by loggers, hunters, wood cutters, tourists and others. Because of the curve, thing are constantly flying out of the backs of pick-ups and landing in the blackberries. So far I have found propane tanks, lots of cut & split firewood, a very nice chainsaw (I advertised it lost in the local newspaper with no response) tools, toys, food, bales of hay, a ladder, a hand truck and even once a car that was abandoned after crashing into the blackberries. About once every month or two, I put on my thorn proof coveralls and crawl into the blackberries to see what treasures I may find. I think I'll go out there and have a look now after posting this!

Ladders are abundant on the freeways of Dallas. They are often "picked up" by people in nice new cars, at highway speeds. :x

I "found" a spare tire off of an 18-wheeler a few years ago on the way to Houston at night. That was a $3,000 tire.

Lucky for me, I found that tire with a Press vehicle instead of my own car. It was a sweet Dodge Magnum SRT/8 -- before I found that tire. :o

Yup, my experience in finding things along the highway has not been all that profitable.

Can't figure out why he said he didn't have one. It's not illegal. ...Is it?

I think it should be illegal, and for punishment, the dog owner should be forced to ride in the back of a pickup on a bumpy road with a drunk redneck at the wheel -- just like the dog in his pickup had to do. :o

But seriously, I cringe every time a see a dog loose in a pickup bed. I've seen the results a couple of times, and it was very ugly. The dog I stopped to help had to be put down. The driver kept going -- probably got pissed at the dog when he got home and it wasn't in the truck.

While going to college I worked summers for the state highway department, and one guy found a, uhhh let's just say a toy, at an exit, he found three of them at the same exit at three different times
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Today I was a rubber mallet fall out the bottom of a 18 wheeler. I would have picked it up if it weren't for the pesky traffic.
